 National Institute of Technology Surathkal, Karnataka is a prestigious technical institute located in Surathkal, Mangalore, India. It is recognised as an Institute of National Importance and is one of India’s 31 National Institutes of Technology.

NIT Surathkal was founded in 1960 as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC). In 2002, it was upgraded to a National Institute of Technology and renamed NIT Surathkal. Admission Process:

Admission to the MTech programme at NIT Surathkal takes place in two ways:

  • Through GATE exam/ CCMT counselling :

To get admission through this process, a candidate should have a valid GATE score in the respective discipline. Then, next, he/she has to participate in CCMT counselling process.

  • Through self-financed programme :

This admission process requires the applicants to apply online on their official website (i.e. IRIS portal) and then submit the hard copy of their application form with the fee receipt within the given time duration.

Note: Applicant can apply to more than one programme, but need to submit separate application forms and fees for each programme.

Next, the institute will release the call letters to the eligible candidate for their written test/ interview process (that mainly occur in offline mode at NITK).

 Minimum Qualification / Eligibility Criterion:

The below criterion is applicable for both the admission process.

Admission shall be opened to Indian nationals who have passed the prescribed qualifying examination with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 6.5 on a scale of 0 to 10 or not less than 60% marks in the aggregate (considering the marks scored in all the subjects of all the public/university examinations conducted during the entire prescribed period for the degree programme). For SC/ST/PwD candidates, this prescribed minimum is a CGPA of 6.0 or an aggregate score of 55 per cent.

For the GATE/ CCMT counselling process, In admission to the above criterion, the candidate should also possess a valid GATE Score card in the respective discipline.
