Q2: Why are the Classification Systems Changing every now and then?


The classification system of organisms changes according to the needs as they arise.  On Earth, there are millions of plants, animals, and microorganisms found. All these have been identified by scientists and many new species are still being discovered around the world wide. Scientists have developed a classification system that is based on evolutionary relationships, and morphological, physiological, and reproductive similarities. Depending on our improvement of understanding of the characteristics of evolutionary relationships similar changes will occur in the future too.

Q3: What different Criteria would you Choose to Classify People that you meet often?


When we meet anybody in our day-to-day life, we observe them based on their characteristics, including gender, education qualification, profession, behavior, physical appearance, family member, relatives, friends and etc.

Q4: What do we learn from the Identification of Individuals and Populations?

Answer :

We learn from the identification of an individual or its entire population helps in the identification of there similarities and dissimilarities among individuals of the same kind or differences between types of organisms.

Mangifera indica is the correct scientific name for Mango. This is correct because the generic name always starts with a capital letter and the specific names start with a small letter.

Q6: Define a taxon. Give some examples of taxa at different hierarchical levels.


Taxon is defined as a group of organisms classified as a unit. Examples of different hierarchical levels are species, genus, order, family, phylum, and kingdom.

Species are defined as a group of organisms that can reproduce with one another in nature and produce fertile offspring. In the case of higher plants and animals, the term species is defined as the largest group of similar organisms capable of interbreeding under natural conditions by sexual reproduction, to produce fertile offspring.

  • Phylum: A phylum is a scientific term group together to relate organism on the basis of their fundamental characteristics.
  • Class: A class has a major taxonomic rank below the phylum and above the order. 
  • Family: A family is a taxonomic group containing one or more related genera.
  • Order:  Order is a taxonomic group that contains one or more families.
  • Genus:  Genus is a taxonomic rank that is used to classify living and extinct species, and viruses.
