Suppose you had a dream of getting admission to ‘X’ college after 12th grade, but due to some ‘Y’ reasons, it is not possible. So, I want to tell you about the GATE exam conducted for postgraduate admission in IITs, NITs, and other top colleges that consider GATE scores for admission in their colleges for post-graduation. This article will mainly focus on the postgraduate admission process in Maharashtra engineering colleges. The admissions process for other state colleges may also be the same as this process.

Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for giving GATE is that you must have completed your graduation or pursuing a third-year or in final-year student. Around September, the GATE application process starts, and the GATE exam is held in February. After the exam, the GATE exam result will be declared after about one month. Then the admissions process for IITs and NITs starts based on merit. Students are either admitted to IITs, or NITs or take a break to prepare again. Also, some GATE-qualified students try for PSU jobs. If you don’t want to take a break but want to do MTech, then you should try to get admission to various engineering colleges in Maharashtra.

Process

The process of getting admission to Maharashtra Engineering College is the same as the BE or BTech admission process at Maharashtra College. “State Common Entrance Test Hall, Government of Maharashtra” launches a website for postgraduate admission every year. On that website, they will put all the schedules for the admissions process.

Note:

On the day of the GATE result, the Candidate has to take a screenshot of their gate result that will help in this admission process, or if you qualify, save your scorecard for this admission process. Your score can be lower, but if you don’t want to take a break from education, then you can try to get admission to some Maharashtra colleges.

Based on the dates mentioned on the admissions website, all processes will happen.

  • Candidates have to register for the admission process and upload relevant documents for verification.
  • There will be two types of candidates: sponsored and non-sponsored. If you just completed engineering, then you have to select a non-sponsored candidate.
  • After paying a processing fee, candidate documents and profiles will be verified.
  • After some days, according to the schedule, a merit list of candidates will be displayed on the website.
  • There will be two types of merit lists: sponsored and non-sponsored. Based on the reservation convention, the institute seat matrix for different branches will also be declared on the website.
  • By analyzing the previous year’s cut-off and doing some research, candidate have to fill out the Option Form for CAP Round 1, and after 2-3 days, provisional allotments will be displayed on the website.
  • Those candidates who want to accept a seat will go to college for further admission, and those who do not want allotment will choose the option of betterment in the portal, and they will be considered for round 2.
  • The same process will be followed until Round 3.
  • After the third round, vacant seats will be published on the website. If students want to change colleges or want to change branches in the same college, then they can take part in the institute-level round.
  • This process is based on guidelines issued by the “State Common Entrance Test Hall, Government of Maharashtra.”
  • After this process, post-graduation colleges will start their academic activities.
