Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) Interview Experience For SWE Internship (On-Campus)

Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) visited our campus in July 2023 to hire final-year students for the role of SWE.

Their criterion was:

CGPA: no criteria

Branches Allowed: CS, ECE, ELEC, MECH.

I cracked this opportunity and am elated to share my experience of the hiring process.

There were 4 rounds conducted overall.

Round 1(Online Test on HackerRank – 60 mins):

There were 16 questions in this round. The questions were of the format: 15+1 that is 16 MCQs and 1 coding. These 15 questions were a mixed bag consisting of DSA, OS, SQL, OOPs, and Logic.

The questions were of medium difficulty and there were marks for partial test cases in the coding question.

61 students were shortlisted for the first interview round.

Round 2(Technical Round 1 – 80 mins):

This round tested technical skills like DSA (Data structures and Algorithms), Python and questions related to projects and tech stacks mentioned in the resume.

The interviewer asked me the following questions:

  • The interviewer asked me to first explain the project and ask about the problems I faced during it.
  • He then asked me my favourite data structure I said Linked List then he asked me to write code for reversing the linked list on the paper then asked to write the code for palindrome checking in the linked list.
  • Implement the queue using two stacks and provide a better approach.
  • Explain the solution that I did in the online coding round.
  • At last, he gave me a modified Trapping Rain Water problem to solve.

21 students were shortlisted for the second interview round.

Round 3(Technical Round 2 – 60 mins):

This round tested technical skills like OOPS, SQL, C++, Python, Puzzles and questions related to college life.

The interviewer asked me the following questions:

  • Give a brief intro about yourself.
  • What are your learnings?
  • Explain the all pillars of OOPS.
  • Explain the transactions in SQL.
  • Explain polymorphism with real-world examples.
  • Explain the Error handling.

12 students were shortlisted for the HR round.

Round 4(HR Round – 20 mins):

She asked questions to know how confident you are in answering situational-based questions.

The interviewer asked me the following questions:

  • Tell me about yourself.
  • Tell me about your Internships and work experience.
  • Tell me about your family members
  • What are your weaknesses and strengths?
  • What you know about MSCI.
  • What are you expecting from MSCI in terms of work, culture, etc?
  • Where do you see yourself in the next 2 years?

11 students were finally selected for the role.
