What is the MOMA Scholarship? 

MOMA Scholarship is a well-known scholarship scheme for the students of the Minority community. It is initiated by the Ministry of Minority Affairs (MOMA) for the students of Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, and Parsi. It provides financial aid to students who are pursuing any professional or technical courses. The scheme has three types. 

1. Pre-metric scholarship ( students belonging to classes 1 to 10).

2. Post-metric scholarship ( students belonging to class 11 to PhD) 

3. Merit-cum-means scholarship ( students pursuing any professional or technical courses).

Under this scheme, 30 lakh pre-metric scholarships, 5 lakh post-metric scholarships, and 60,000 merit-cum-means scholarships are provided by the Government of India. Of these three types of schemes, 30% is reserved for girl students.

MOMA Scholarship Rewards

Eligibility Criteria 

The students who want to apply for the MOMA Scholarship must fulfill the following criteria. 

  1. The candidate must belong to the six minority communities namely Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, and Parsi. 
  2. Applicant should be studying in India in any government-recognised body. 

Pre-metric Scholarship Eligibility Criteria 

  1. For applying Pre-metric scholarship, a student must be studying in classes 1 to 10. 
  2. A minimum of 50% marks is required in their last qualifying examination.
  3. Annual family income must be under 1 lakh.

Post-metric Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

  1. Applicant must be studying in classes 11th to 12th to avail of the scholarship.
  2. ITI/technical/vocational/polytechnic courses students are also eligible for this scheme.
  3. Annual family income must be under 2 lakh.

Merit-cum-means Scholarship Eligibility Criteria 

  1. Technical or professional courses students are eligible.
  2. 50% minimum marks required.
  3. Annual family income must be under 2.5 lakh.

The students who are pursuing a course having a duration of less than a year do not benefit from the Scheme. Once you know the eligibility criteria and if you qualify them, you can easily start applying to it.

Documents required for MOMA Scholarship

The following documents are required for the application – 

  1. Proof of family income certificate
  2. Passport size photograph
  3. Bank details
  4. Aadhar card
  5. Self-certified community certificate
  6. The last qualifying examination mark sheet
  7. A domicile certificate.

Application Process of MOMA Scholarship

The eligible candidates have to visit the official website (scholarships.gov.in) to easily apply for the scholarship. Here are the steps that you can follow to fill out the form.

1. Once you land on the first page of the website and click on the new registration (if you are a new user).

2. Read all the instructions carefully, tick all the boxes and click on “continue” button.

5. Then a new page will appear that will ask for your contact details, and ID proof. You’ve to add the details as asked and click on ‘Verify’.

6. After completing the registration, you will get the application form.

7. You have to choose the category of Minority scholarship you are eligible for and fill up the application form correctly with all necessary details.

8. You are asked to upload the necessary documents. 

9. At last, you have to click on final submit and then print out the final copy of the application form. 

MOMA Scholarship Renewal Policy 

There is another option which is a renewal application also available along with a fresh application. The students who were already selected for the scholarship may renew their application in the next academic year of the course. For applying for renewal application, candidates must have secured a minimum of 50% marks in the previous year’s examination. However, this MOMA Scholarship will be renewed only if the candidate pursues the same course in the same institute.

Ans. An Aadhar card is not mandatory to apply for the MOMA Scholarship. You can also apply for the scholarship without an Aadhar card.

Ans. The provision to check the status of the application is available through the National Scholarship Portal. A candidate has to visit the NSP website and log in with an application ID and password. Once the next page is opened, you have to go to the status section and click on the Status button. You will get your application status.

Q3. How can a candidate edit his/her MOMA Scholarship form?

Ans. A candidate can edit his/her application form until they submit the form. Once the application form is submitted, candidates are not allowed to edit the application.

Q4. How to check the scholarship payment status?

Ans. The provision to check the scholarship payment status whether the amount has been deposited or not, the applicant can check through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) portal of the Government of India. To check payment status, you have to visit the official website of PFMS and click on the tab ‘Track NSP Payment’. Now by providing application ID and bank details, a candidate will get the actual status.
