Mckinsey Interview Expereience for Software Developer

Mckinsey visited the college campus on Sep 2022 for FTE for the role of Software Developer

Round 1: The first round was a Game where u need to apply your aptitude and critical thinking skills. around 100+ students got the test link after that 300

Round 2: The first round consists of 2 coding questions.

• Get the groups: it was based on the Disjoint set union
• It was based on Graph

Questions asked were:

• Coding Ques 1. in get the group’s question. there is a number of students as the semester progresses they become friends and they start forming groups. they became friends based on the query type. finally, we have to report the number of groups
• Coding Ques 2. Some sort of Graph question. where we need to move the product from one node to the final in the shortest time
• I did 2 coding questions completely. Regarding the graph question, I was not able to fully optimize it .hence passed 12/15 cases.

Got shortlisted for the next round along with 20 students.

Round 3: The Second Round is a Code pair round. One of the Mckinsey staff will accompany you throughout the round.

• I was given one DP string-based problem and the graph concept was being used with permutations and combinations included.
• I was not able to solve it but coded brute force and told my approach
• I Got Called for the next round !!.it was surprising for me It was a direct call, so didn’t know how many students were shortlisted.

Round 4: The third round is a technical round.  

• I mentioned about my internship. So the interviewer questioned in-depth about the project (ML-based). The Conversation lasted for 30 minutes.
• the interviewer asked me questions mainly focused on OOPS, DBMS, and CN.
• he asked me about the detailed application of OOPs in my Deep Learning project.
• Got called for the next round!  
• 6 people were selected after this round.

Round 5: The Fourth Round was Hr Round.

• she asked about my achievements like any Hackathons or ranks of Leetcode contests, CodeChef, etc
• she asked me about my internship and how I solved the problem
• as a mechanical engineer why I wanted to come to Software Development.

I wasn’t selected. They selected 3/20 students finally.

But that’s alright, prepare well for all the opportunities you get. Try your best so that you won’t have any regrets. please focus on DSA,CP and specially Hackathons.All the best!!
