Date: 27th February 2023, IIML Noida Campus:

99.72 percentile in CAT | GEM Profile | B.Tech in CSE | Work ex of 11 months [considered till 31st July 2022] | 3 months at Infosys and currently working on GeeksforGeeks as MTS (technical content, DSA) | 10th/12th/Grad – 93.42/91.0/83.4

Time: 8.30 am. I get out of the interview room around 11 am.

WAT Topic: Artificial Intelligence in Academia: Dawn of a new era? [15 min, 300 words limit]. Not so good, felt a bit of a time shortage.

  • Interview: I was the 5th of my panel (panel-9, total 12 panels). There were 2 male interviewers (M1 in his 40s, M2 seemed to be around 50). It was a 10-12 min interview.
  • Me: Greeted both.
  • M1: Asked me to sit and asked for the personal data form. Also said to put the file on the table.
  • M1: So tell us why you left your first job within 3 months?
  • Me: Answered as prepared (my personal preference)
  • M1: So you are from CSE background yet not interested in computer subject?
  • Me: Clarified that I am still working on domain related to computer subjects (Data Structure & Algorithm) [M2 also clarified it to him]
  • M2: So how does your company functions?
  • Me: Told them.
  • M2: So you sell contents?
  • Me: Told that they are open for all, but we also have some courses that are sold.
  • M2: Then how the company makes money?
  • Me: Answered
  • M2: Do you think your job requires ethics and values?
  • Me: Yes because the contents are consumed by students all over the counntry and even outside. So it is our duty to provide the correct content.
  • M2: Have you heard of Chat GPT?
  • Me: Yes
  • M2: Don’t you think it will soon obliterate coders from the field?
  • Me: In my opinion though Chat GPT can provide contents, it cannot ensure that the content it is providing is completely correct or can provide new contents.
  • M2 interrupts: So in that case we only need testers and not developers.
  • Me: Was answering that it cannot write something completely new but got interrupted
  • M2: So do you think it can write a code of network socket?
  • Me: I guess it can because those are already available and the model might also be trained for that.
  • M2: Then won’t it take the jobs of developers in next  3-5 years.
  • Me: (I felt that instead of trying to elaborate my thought I should directly say the keyword because of repeated interruption) I don’t think so Sir, because it doesn’t have the innovative ability.
  • (M1 remarks: innovation hmm.)
  • M1: So tell us about any two companies which you think are doing innovative works in the field of technology or any other field:
  • Me: (I could recall only one, So I added) Sir, one I would say Chat GPT itself and the other I will say Tesla in the field of EV.
  • M1: So tell me why research is called “research”?
  • Me: Sir I particulary don’t know, but what I can think of is that, in research work we are not trying to innovate anything out of the blue, but forming a base on some known topics and based on that trying to find something new.
  • M2: So do you think EV is good for society?
  • Me: In my opinion Sir, it is good for society but … (interrupts again)
  • M2: So you are saying Lithium is not harmful?
  • Me: Yes sir it has pollutant nature but compared to fossil fuel which is dominantly used nowadays it is less harmful.
  • M2: Is Lithium abundant in nature?
  • Me: Sir, I exactly don’t know but based on the fact that recent discovery of Lithium mine is said to have good impact on Indian export I guess it is not abundant.
  • M2: Have you heard about the FAME scheme of Govt?
  • Me: Yes sir, told a bit about the scheme.
  • M2: What do you think is the drawback of current EV scheme of the govt.?
  • Me: Sorry sir, I haven’t read the schemes in detail.
  • M1: What are your hobbies?
  • Me: Told them (Sudoku and Online Games)
  • M2: Can you tell the impact of Rabindranath in our literature?
  • Me: Said his overall expertise in all forms of arts and also in that period it instilled nationalism among the people.
  • M2: Can you tell the difference between Rabindrasangeet and other form of songs?
  • Me: Sorry sir, I don’t have knowledge about songs.
  • M2: So you are not interested in art forms?
  • Me: No sir not much.
  • M1: Tell us why any party in West Bengal is ruling for so long, earlier CPI(M), currently TMC?
  • Me: In my opinion it is due to the lack of strong opposition.
  • M1: So why not 2 or 3 parties combinedly try to do so?
  • Me: (I didn’t have any particular reason but tried to say) Talked about the issues with oppositions throughout the line and their lack of organization.

They looked at each other and nodded that they will end the interview. They ended the interview and asked me to leave. I again greeted them and left.

Verdict: Waitlisted
