SimpleScreenRecorder is an open-source application that can be used for recording the screen in Ubuntu or Linux systems. SimpleScreenRecorder application has various features that enhance the productivity of Recording. The application records high-quality video and audio from the desktop, webcam, or external microphones. The GUI of the Application is very much intuitive and user-friendly. The application supports many recording formats like MP4, APVI, MKV, and many more. The application also offers to record a specific part of the screen rather than recording the entire screen. In this article, we will go through the installation of the SimpleScreenRecorder application on the Ubuntu system and also see the Practical usage by recording the screen.

Installation of SimpleScreenRecorder on Ubuntu

Follow the below steps to install the SimpleScreenRecorder Application on the Ubuntu system. 

Step 1: In the 1st Step, we will update our system using the apt manager. This will update the repositories, and all the packages, which will help in the installation. Execute the below command in the terminal to update the system using apt manager.

sudo apt update

Step 2: In many systems, SimpleScreenRecorder Application cannot be installed with default repositories, so we need to add the external repository. To add the external repository to the system, use the below command. 

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:maarten-baert/simplescreenrecorder

Step 3: As we have added the external repository, we need to once again update all the dependencies and repositories using the apt manager. So we will repeat Step 1 once again. Execute the same command which was executed in Step 1.

sudo apt update

Step 4: Now, finally, we will install the Application using apt manager, we will execute the below command in the terminal for successful installation of SimpleScreenRecorder.

sudo apt-get install simplescreenrecorder

Step 5: To verify, whether the application is installed on the system or not, we will open All Applications and search for SimpleScreenRecorder. You can see in the below screenshot that the icon of the application is present which defines that the Application is successfully installed on the System.

Usage of SimpleScreenRecorder

Step 1: After launching the application, Press on the Continue button to go to format and configure the Recording settings.

Step 2: As we discussed in the Introduction and Features section, SimpleScreenRecorder offers various Video Input options like Recording the Entire Screen, Specific Region of the Screen, and many more. We can configure here our choice. As of now, we have selected the Option of Recording the Entire Screen. Click on the Continue button once you have selected your choice.

Step 3: In this Tab, we have to configure the Output Settings, the video recording which will be generated can be configured here. We can give the custom directory where the output file will be saved and many more customization can be done.

Step 4: Once, all the Customization is done, just press the button of Start Recording. Then do your task and once done, Stop the Recording, the Screen Recorded Video will be saved in the output directory.

Step 5: You can see below, we have saved our recording. The file format of the saved file is .mkv. We can also customize this in Output Settings.

Step 6: Below we have added the Recording which is been recorded using SimpleScreenRecorder Application.
