How To Install adwaita-icon-theme on Ubuntu

This package includes the GNOME desktop’s default icon theme. The icons are used in many official gnome apps, including eog, evince, system monitor, and many others. To avoid installing many duplicated icons, this package only includes a tiny portion of the original GNOME icons that are not offered by the Humanity icon theme. If you want the complete set, install adwaita-icon-theme-full. This package includes the GNOME desktop’s default icon theme. On Ubuntu 20.04, there are three options for installing adwaita-icon-them. Apt-get, apt, and aptitude are all available. Each strategy of installation will be described in detail in the following sections. You may select any of them.

  • Using apt-get to install adwaita-icon-theme
  • Using apt to install adwaita-icon-theme
  • Using aptitude to install adwaita-icon-theme

Let’s go through all the installation methods.

Method 1: Using apt-get to install adwaita-icon-theme

Step 1: Using the following command, update the apt database using apt-get.

sudo apt-get update

 

Step 2: After upgrading the apt database, we can use apt-get to install adwaita-icon-them by performing the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install adwaita-icon-theme

 

Method 2: Using apt to install adwaita-icon-theme

Step 1: The apt database will be updated using the following command.

sudo apt update

 

Step 2: After upgrading the apt database, we can use apt to install adwaita-icon-them by performing the following command:

sudo apt -y install adwaita-icon-theme

 

Method 3: Using aptitude to install adwaita-icon-theme

Step 1: If you want to use this method, you may need to install aptitude first because it is not normally installed by default on Ubuntu. Use the following command to update the apt database with aptitude.

sudo aptitude update

 

Step 2: After upgrading the apt database, we can use aptitude to install adwaita-icon-them by performing the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install adwaita-icon-theme
