Citi Bank Interview Experience 2023

I recently had the opportunity to interview for an internship position at Citi Bank in the ICG (Institutional Clients Group) division during the third year of my computer engineering course. The interview experience was challenging and informative, and I’d like to share the details with you.

1. Application and Online Assessment

The assessments were conducted online, during the initial application and online assessment process. The online test consisted of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) covering aptitude, Spring framework, Angular, and data structures. Additionally, there were two coding questions included in the assessment, with difficulty levels ranging from easy to medium.

2. Interview – August 25th, 2023

I had the privilege of going through a comprehensive interview process for the Citi Bank ICG (Institutional Clients Group) Internship on August 25, 2023. The interviews were conducted offline and consisted of three rounds, each progressively narrowing down the pool of candidates.

• First Interview – Technical Round:

The first interview was a purely technical one. I began by introducing myself and providing a thorough overview of my projects and experiences. The interviewer delved into my project details, seeking a deep understanding of the work I had done. The technical aspect of this round included questions on HTML form validations, SQL queries (covering joins and aggregate functions), and differentiating between encapsulation and abstraction using real-life examples. It was a rigorous but rewarding conversation, demonstrating the depth of my technical knowledge

• Second Interview – Technical and HR Combined:

In the second round, which was a combination of technical and HR questions, I was asked to go beyond the information listed on my resume. I described myself from a perspective other than what was mentioned in my resume, providing a more personal touch to my introduction. The interviewer then focused on Java-related inquiries and quizzed me on database concepts, including Data Definition Language (DDL), Data Control Language (DCL), and Data Manipulation Language (DML) commands. Additionally, I was asked to explain the differences between “truncate,” “delete,” and “drop” commands. The conversation shifted towards online transactions, with a discussion about the intricacies of how they work and the significance of UPI numbers in facilitating transactions. Lastly, I was probed about my motivations for wanting to join Citi Bank.

• Third Interview – HR Round:

The third and final round was a dedicated HR interview. While it was relatively brief, it allowed for a more personal interaction. We discussed my journey, family background, and the reasons behind my interest in joining Citi Bank. It was a pleasant and relaxed conversation, providing a human touch to the overall interview experience.

After each round, I had the opportunity to ask questions that I was genuinely curious about, which helped me gain further insights into the company and the role I was applying for.

I am delighted to share that the results were announced shortly after these interviews, and I was fortunate to receive the internship offer. The entire interview process was not only challenging but also enriching, allowing me to showcase my technical expertise, communicate my motivations, and engage in meaningful conversations with the Citi Bank team. It was indeed a rewarding experience, and I eagerly anticipate the start of my internship with Citi Bank’s ICG division.
