As most of my connections and juniors are asking me about my BARC Scientist interview experience so this post is all about BARC and my interview experience.

For those who are very new to this post of the Government of India, a BARC Scientist is a Grade A level Gazetted officer like IAS, IPS and DRDO Scientist, ISRO Scientist, etc.

Selection for interview: Gate Score/Written test
interview date:16 June -2023
Venue: BARC Headquarters Mumbai
Level of interview: Medium to Hard.

Summary of the day of the interview:

After the verification process, you will get a green card for the final interview and have to wait until your number comes, as my department is Computer Science, in my case there are two panels each panel consists of 5-6 senior Scientists.

Now it’s time for Technical Roasting By BARC Scientists. It’s not like they are very polite and if you are stuck at any point they give hints.

At the very first, they asked some basic questions like your education, GATE score rank, and IIT you got through the gate. They can ask about your final year projects (not in my case ).
Then one of the interviewers asked me to write my favorite 5-6 core subjects on the Whiteboard which I studied in B.Tech. After that, they picked one by one subject and started asking questions.
I wrote those 5 subjects ( C, COA, DS, OS, Algo) . Also, they can ask about other subjects like CN, DBMS, TOC, and CD.

Questions topics they asked in my interview:

C: Compiler-related questions like how a program gets executed. High-level and low-level coding what is the need and which cases they preferred. Asked for Java but I am not comfortable so they switched they didn’t ask pointer questions and structure topics.

DSA: Data structures you studied. write a function that checks two strings whether one is the rotation of another by any position.
Good questions from sorting and searching.

COA: RISC and CISC processor in very detail asked about ARM processors and AMD processors, Interrupt related questions but not asked from pipelining

OS: About operating system needs of OS types OS they touch very depth architecture of OS, process diagram, SSD, HDD

Also, they asked about microprocessors and microcontrollers and some topics which are out of my zone.

A small suggestion :

This interview is not that much of a level of hardness from my experience, if you really prepare in very depth on core subjects then you can easily clear it. when you explain it will be better to use of the whiteboard for diagrams and examples. When you answer any questions make sure that each word that you are telling is meaningful and we’ll know of that word or terms they can ask for more details about that.
Lastly, prepare research-type questions like What is the need for a cache what happened if we did not use the cache
