Prerequisite – Analytical Engine

The Analytical Engine is the General-Purpose Mechanical Computer Engine which is a fully program-controlled machine that also has an automatic mechanical digital computer in it. It is programmed with the punch cards and is able to perform any of the calculation set before it. It includes integrated memory, programs flow control, and ALU into it. Any of the finite calculations can be carried or performed by the Analytical Engine.

Advantages :

  • An optimized memory is being integrated into the Analytical Engine.
  • It includes Integrated memory, ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit), and power flow into it with the context of various loops and implicit branches.
  • Analytical Engine is the successor of the Difference Engine.
  • The Analytical Engine includes various loops and conditionals in the machine programming language.
  • It includes the combination of CPU and ALU for the physical pegs.
  • Range of performance sources, like punch cards, digital format printed copies, and chart plot is being supported into the Analytical Engine.
  • It is firstly designed for a particular-purpose device which is defined as Turing-complete.
  • In an Analytical Engine, the rotating drums satisfy the requirements of different turning machines.
  • Provides fast, stable, and exact solutions for a problem and is quite time-saving.

Disadvantages :

  • Charles Babbage died, so the Analytical Engine remains incomplete.
  • Analytical Engine is a computer which is comprehensive.
  • It has its own personal nature.
  • It cannot provide or support many summaries of the layout.
  • Because of its mechanical difficulty, the Analytical Engine has not yet been built up.
