Kanpur is called the Manchester of Uttar Pradesh. Kanpur is the biggest city in Uttar Pradesh, the main commercial and industrial activities center. It is the popular trade circle and contributes to the growth and development of the state.

Kanpur is situated on the important national highways number 2 and 25, state highways, the main Delhi-Howrah railway truck lines, and situated at the bank of the holy river Ganga. Kanpur is also the divisional headquarter of Kanpur commissionery consisting of the following districts:

Kanpur is recognized as industrial city but some industries like Hosiery and textile industry tops the list of the industries. The hosiery products are famous across the country and abroad. Importantly, the district is self-dependent in terms of the raw materials, more than 92% raw material required for the industry is received locally. These industries holds a large segment of employment for the most of the population.

Kanpur is also famous for cotton production, as located centrally in the Ganga basin, there is a good deal of cotton textile industry in Kanpur. Kanpur contains seventeen big cotton-textile mills, therefore, being the biggest center of cotton textile in north India.

Kanpur is also known as the “leather city” of India, owing to the many tanneries in the region. As located on the banks of the holy river Ganga, the city of Kanpur gained great prominence from the eighteenth century. It offers interesting places to visit and things to do around the city. However, the city has much more to offer a traveler visiting the city for a business trip or vacation.
