After navigating through 2-2.5 years of stress, anxiety, and a rollercoaster of experiences, we’ve finally wrapped up our admission process, and it’s time to embark on our college journey—a place that will become our home for the next 3-4 years.

Hello everyone! I’m currently in my second year of B.Tech., specializing in IT at Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli, Maharashtra. The emotions I just described reflect my state of mind as I entered college last year. As you continue reading, you’ll delve into the experiences of my first year on this campus.

As we are tech branch students, many of my peers had already delved into coding before the start of our first year, but I was not among them. Also, initially, I found some subjects like chemistry and electrical engineering rather unexciting. Our college journey commenced in November, and as we adjusted to the rigors of engineering life, a WhatsApp group message changed the game. It was about the Google Solution Challenge 2023, which required us to master web development and related skills. However, my focus on academics suffered during this period, resulting in lower grades.

In February, a hackathon organized by ACM at our college opened up new horizons. We seized the opportunity and presented our innovative idea before a distinguished panel of judges, including Mr. Sumit Shah, the founder of Dukaan who got the first prize in the novice track. It was an incredible experience. Subsequently, I encountered numerous opportunities, experiencing failures and triumphs that bolstered my confidence.

Eventually, I got the position of assistant secretary at SAIT, the departmental club for IT. Over the past 10–11 months in college, I’ve absorbed a multitude of lessons, some gained through positive experiences and others through more challenging circumstances. Regardless of your current situation, I’ve learned that within specific timeframes, you can achieve a great deal for yourself. The most crucial lesson is that no external judgments or comparisons should dictate your journey. This is your story, your life, and what others do or think about you shouldn’t overshadow your path. With countless days ahead on this campus, there are bound to be numerous lessons waiting to be learned.
