After Independence, the Indian government adopted planning. The central government established Planning Commission to draw to draw , develop and implement the planning in India. Indian economy followed the concept of planning till 2017, after that Planning Commission was replaced by NITI Aayog.

 Note: Soviet Union was the first country which started using five-year plans for the development of the country in the late 1920s. Joseph Stalin implemented the first FYP in the Soviet Union.
