Here we have listed the 10 best Spider Man Games, depending on their platform availability and story plot:

Top 10 Spider Man Games

10. Spider-Man: The Movie (2002)

Release Date: 16th April 2002

Developer: Treyarch

Platform: Xbox, PS2, GameCube

The game, Spider-Man: The Movie, was released as a tie-in videogame for the fan favourite movie Spider-Man 2002. The characters of Spidey and Green Goblin are voiced by Tobey Maguire and Willem Dafoe who played their respective roles in the movie. The story of the game is quite short and around six hours long.

But once you complete all levels as Spider-man, you can also play as Green Goblin. The voice acting by Willem Dafoe was great in the film, but Maguire’s voice acting was lacklustre, to say the least. The combats in the games are fun as you zip through the attack drones, change direction mid-air to deflect enemy weapons and swing around to use your combos. The PS2 animation of this game will definitely make you nostalgic.

9. Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions (2010)

Release Date: 7th September 2010

Developer: Beenox

Platform: XBox 360, PS3

For many of us, this was our first introduction to Miguel O’hara’s Spider-Man 2099 and Spider-Man Noir. The story follows four different Spider-Men- The Amazing Spider-Man (The classic nerd Peter Parker from the main timeline), Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Man 2099 and Ultimate Spider-man. Each Spider-men has their own unique ability and power that you get to use throughout the story. The big bad of this game is Mysterio.

The story revolves around a magical table that is shattered throughout the Multiverse at the start of the game and prompts us to take control of each Spidey as we try to find the Mcguffin in their universe. The game has cool fight scenes and a lot of villain redesigns that you’ll either love or hate. But the game is way too short for a story such as this. The glitchiness of the game makes it hard for us to focus or fight the villain without dying.

8. Spider-Man (2000)

Release Date: 1st September 2000

Developer: Neversoft

Platform: PS1, Dreamcast N64

This iconic game was released by Neversoft in the year 2000 and is still one of the most famous Spidey games of all time, loved by fans all over the world. The game is a dream come through for every Spidey fan. It has the dry nerdy humour of Peter Parker, a cameo from Punisher and the Baxter Building, the game is narrated by Stan Lee, himself.

The game has the cast from Spider-Man the animated series and Spider-man unlimited. The gameplay incorporates Spidey’s powers in a very intriguing way. It makes use of each powerset of Spidey without making it boring or glitchy. It has cool comic book easter eggs and literal comic books littered throughout the game. The story follows Spidey, who is being set up by an impostor Spider-man.

The story has iconic Spider-man villains who are as campy as they could get. The game also introduced a brand new villain just for the game, ‘Monster Ock,’ who is the combination of Carnage and Doc Ock The game does has it’s weird elements, like you can die by falling off a building or run out of webs mid game, which can be infuriating but fun at the same time.

7. Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage (1994)

Release Date: 16th September 1994

Developer: Software Creations

Platform: SNES, Sega Genesis

Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage was a game-changer when it was released. Every Spidey game before Spider-man and Venom: Maximum carnage had failed at finding love by fan but that changed on 16th September 1994. The game was based on the comic with the same name. It has the antique arcade style animation that feels unique and so comic book-like that you will feel like you are in the comic book itself.

The cut scenes literally recreates the comic book panels from Maximum Carnage. In the game you get to choose if you want to play as Spidey or Venom. And it has an array of unlockable characters that you can choose from. But with all that being said, the game does have one flaw, the game can get painfully hard at times for no understandable reason and becomes irritating as you try to pass through these levels.

6. Spider-Man: Web of Shadows (2008)

Release Date: 21st October 2008

Developer: Amaze Entertainment

Platform: Nintendo DS, PS 3, Xbox 360

The game follows Spidey as he tries to stop the symbiotes’ invasion in New York City, with the help of his Black suit and a bunch of friends from Marvel’s roster. The game is quite dark unlike any other Spidey game. The game was released in two different formats on two different platforms.

It was released on handheld and console at the same time, except the handheld was way better than the console version. It was released as both an open world video game and 2D-Side scrolling brawler. The game has an ever expanding map, cool Metroidvania art style of animation, which was quite a fresh spin on the iconic genre of Spidey games.

5. Ultimate Spider-Man (2005)

Release Date: 19th September 2005

Developer: Treyarch

Platform: PS2, GameCube, Xbox

Based on the Ultimate run of the Spidey comic, Ultimate Spider-man was an iconic spin on the character. The game was directed by Brian Mendis himself, who created the Ultimate Spider-man. The game starts with Eddie Brock, who is corrupted by the Symbiote, fighting Spidey on their high school football field.

In the game, you can play as Spidey, obviously, but also as Venom, which just makes the game even more interesting as you wander around New York City, devouring villains and innocent people alike. The animation is heavily influenced by comic books as it keeps changing perspective for each character like a comic book panel and to make the game even more interesting as if it wasn’t already fun, it has a cameo from Wolverine at the Boss fight in a bar.

4. Spider-Man 2: The Movie (2004)

Release Date: 28th June 2004

Developer: Treyarch

Platform: PS2, XBOX, GameCube

Spider-man 2 was a spin-off of the Spider-man: The Movie and a tie in game for Sam Raimi’s Spider-man 2. The story is loosely similar to that of the movie. It also includes cast and characters from the movie. The game was also the first time when Spidey used buildings and apartments to anchor his webs and swing around, making it feel more realistic.

The game was heavily influenced by GTA 3, with its open world theme and fun side quest like delivering pizzas to stopping crimes in the neighbourhood. Spider-man 2: The movie was the foundation that Insomniac Spider man games stood tall on. It set an unprecedented impact on the Spidey games, changing the game’s genre for the coming future and making way for Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-man, Marvel’s Spider-man: Miles Morales and Marvel’s Spider-man 2.

3. Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018)

Release Date: 7th September 2018

Developer: Insomniac

Platform: PS4

The game became one of the most iconic Spidey games of all time right after it was released. Insomniac, the developers of the game were extremely dedicated to making a Spidey experience that stayed true to the character, had great yet modern art style and something fans can relate to. Marvel’s Spider-man is the closest thing we have to the iconic classic Spider-man.

The game has an enriching, emotional story that follows an Experienced Peter Parker’s Spider-man as he tries to live his life and take important decisions that lead the plot further. The story is almost as good as a movie, or even better.

2. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020)

Release Date: 12 November 2020

Developer: Insomniac

Platform: PS4, PS5

The game was a spin-off of the original Marvel’s Spider-man game. It has one of the best characterisation of Miles Morales, as the game went in depth of his lore, exploring the Harlem neighbourhood of New York City, as he lives his life both as a teenager and as a Superhero. Marvel’s Spider-man: Miles Morales is a continuation as well as expansion of the Insomniac’s Spider-man universe.

The story takes an interesting spin on the rookie Spider-man story as it follows Miles Morales as he tries to live up to the name of the iconic superhero. The game has the best Miles Morales characterisation in all of media. And most importantly, it was a game that proved you don’t need Peter Parker to make a great Spider-man game in the first place.

1. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (2023)

Release Date: 20 October 2023

Developer: Insomniac

Platform: PS5

Marvel’s Spider-man 2 is the best piece of Spidey media fans have experienced in a while. The developer, Insomniac blew it off the park with this game. The game has enhanced the experience from its previous games. They took in consideration all the critics and issues from the previous games and worked on them and it shows. The game follows two iconic Spider-man tales, or at least is half inspired by them, the Venom storyline, which has been at heart of every Spider-man media and Kraven’s last hunt.

You get to choose from a vast choice of Spidey suits for both Peter Parker’s Spider-man and Miles Morales’ Spider-man. You also have web wings like that in the comics that help you fly through an ever expanding city. The story, animation and characters are beautifully weaved together to give fans a great Spider-man game. The game has a bittersweet ending, but the dreadful feeling of it coming closer is felt throughout the game.

The game will definitely make you tear up for Peter Parker and be hyped for Miles Morales. As of now, this is the best Spider-man game of all time, maybe Insomniac will dethrone themselves with their next Spidey game, but who knows, what awaits for our favourite web slinging, joke cracking Superhero.
