Sweden is a country situated in northern Europe and is a land popular for its food and culture. Swedish food is famous all over the world, as well as one of the biggest exports of the country. Talk about the rich coffee culture or rich delicacies such as reindeer meat, the country has a very wide variety. If we mention the history of Swedish food, then there is a lot of importance of fish and it had a vast trade pattern in the olden days. 

The fishes were also preserved in salt thus, making salt another important food item for trade. Swedish cuisine comes in all shapes and sizes, including bread, berries, meat, dairy product, seafood, vegetables, and a lot more. Winters also play an important role in the food culture of the country. 1. Kottbular – Meatballs

The first famous dish in Sweden is Kottbular which is prepared with onion, egg, milk, breadcrumbs, and beef. It is one of the classic dishes and is loved all over the world. There are a lot of ways of preparing it and is traditionally served with lingonberry jam, mashed potato, and brown cream sauce. People eat it as an everyday meal and also on special occasions like Christmas or Easter. The Meatballs or Kottbullar of Sweden are prepared gently and with love and this is a dish that makes Sweden popular in the field of Foods. 

2.  Smorgastarta – Sandwich Cake 

Love cakes and sandwiches, then you will definitely love this also. This dish is overall a sandwich cake, in which the numerous layers of bread are filled with savory cream blended with eggs or prawns. Then the whole body is covered with cream cheese and lime making it look like a beautiful cake. People love to eat it alone or sometimes with side dishes including, cucumber strips, tomato slices, fish roe, etc. At times people also garnish it with lots of fresh herbs and olive oil.

3.  Rackmacha – Shrimp Sandwich

Generally, people like to each shrimp or prawns as a curry or with pasta, but in Sweden, they make smooth watering shrimp sandwiches which can be found in every corner of the country. It is very famous in the corner of Sweden, on the refrigerated shelves of Supermarkets, in cafes, and also at personal stations. 4. Kalops – Swedish Beef Dish 

As we all know winters call for something warm and flavor, then Kalops is the best option for that. Gently prepared with ingredients like potatoes, mushrooms, carrots, beef and so much going in with this Stew, It is very delicious and winter nights when you are craving a warming dish. It is also kind of similar to British beef stew and is served traditionally with backed potatoes and beetroot salad. 

5. Gravlax – Dill cured Salmon 

Fish lovers this amazing dish is for you all. The major ingredient of the dish is Salmon (fish) along with Beetroot, dill Salt, Sugar, White pepper, and Orange zest. Gravlax is sometimes cold-smoked and served as a thinly- sliced appetizer. People love to eat it with different toppings thus giving it totally a different texture. 

6. Crayfish 

Crayfish is one of the relished dishes in Sweden and is mostly eaten in the month of August as it is the major season for them. There are also Crayfish parties in the particular month as they are served in a large variety. The fresh ones are boiled and served with dill and also as a main course with lobsters. Cooking a Crayfish requires a lot of tricks like removing the tail and claws.
