Hello All!

Over the past 9 months, I was seeking an internship, quite literally applying ‘anywhere and everywhere. Looking back, I think that I applied to around 100 different roles because I wanted the experience of professional Software Development!

In this post, I will try to describe the fastest interview process of my life and try to explain how things went much better than expected and how ‘hard work pays off!’. As most people know, applying for placements is a long process and in my opinion, it’s a numbers game. I’ve already stated that I applied to nearly 100 roles and throughout the process, I faced rejection in many ways. As time went on, I was scrambling everywhere (Indeed, Google Jobs, LinkedIn …) until I stumbled across a role for ‘Cloud Software Developer Intern’ at SquaredUp. The key difference between this one and all the others I had applied for was that the Tech Stack was particularly suitable for me (React JS, Node JS, TypeScript, AWS) whereas other roles were more based around Python, and Java, C#. Another significant thing about this role was that it’s a ‘remote-first’ job (something which is particularly appealing to me).

Bearing in mind that I still had several other applications that were pending (one was even pending for FOUR MONTHS), time was beginning to run out. Another consideration is the fact that I had exams to prepare for therefore that was another factor in my application process!

1st round: This round was simple, sent in your CV.

2nd round: It was a remote interview with 2 questions: ‘Tell me about yourself?’ and ‘Why do you want this role?’. I got instant feedback.

3rd round: This was a simple DSA problem. I was quite lucky as I landed the FizzBuzz problem. I even made a small error in my solution but I fixed it! That led me to the 4th and final round!

It got to a point where I had 3 final round interviews in the same week and I was successful in them all!!

4th round: This involved me having to present one of my projects and walk through it, showcasing features, and code and explaining why I made particular decisions. It lasted 40 minutes but I was successful!!!  The key difference between SquaredUp and the other companies I applied for is that they wrapped up the whole process within 2 weeks whereas the other companies took months for the whole process!

Now I’ve just started my internship and I’m diving into all sorts of Tech! React, TypeScript, Storybook, Jest … Thank you for reading about my experience. The hard work paid off! It is a numbers game and I look forward to learning a lot throughout my internship!
