Phenom Interview Experience for PDE (Product Development Engineer) – 2022

Hey everyone!

I recently had an interview experience with Phenom for the role of Product Development Engineer (PDE) and I am delighted to share that I got selected. Phenom conducted a 3-stage selection process, which included two technical rounds and a written test. Below is a detailed walkthrough of my experience.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Minimum 60% or above in your current course, graduation, Class X and XII.
  • No current backlogs.
  • Good communication skills.
  • BTech graduates from all branches were eligible.

Written Round:

The first round was a written test conducted on HackerRank, and was divided into two sections:

  1. Multiple Choice Questions: This section was primarily Quant based and included 20 questions.
  2. Programming Questions: This section consisted of 2 programming questions.

Technical Round 1:

This round was scheduled for the next day and lasted about 45 minutes. I was asked the following questions:

  1. Introduce yourself.
  2. Why do you want to join a coding company despite being from a non-technical background?
  3. I was given a password validator coding problem. The criteria for a valid password were: it should contain at least one lowercase character, one uppercase character, a number, and should be longer than 8 characters. I was further asked about how I would make the password stronger.
  4. I was given an unsorted array with 0s, 1s, and 2s and was asked to sort them.
  5. There were also several questions related to web development (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript).

Technical Round 2 + HR Round:

After two hours, the second technical round was scheduled. The questions included:

  1. Once again, I was asked to introduce myself.
  2. As I already had one job offer, they wanted to know why I would choose to join Phenom.
  3. Technical questions related to linked lists (mainly circular linked lists) and arrays.
  4. They asked me about my vision and where I saw myself in the next 5 years.
  5. Finally, I was asked about my preferred work setup: office, home, or a hybrid model.

Towardwards the end of the interview, the interviewer asked if I had any questions. I took this opportunity to inquire more about the company and its culture.

Final Verdict: Selected!

My key takeaways from this process are to prepare well, be confident, and be clear in your communication. It’s essential to understand the concepts well, as they tend to focus on your problem-solving abilities and how well you can apply your learning. All the best to everyone preparing for their interviews!

Hope this helps!
