I.

Que 1. What kind of place is Innisfree? Think about:

  1. the three things the poet wants to do when he goes back there (stanza I);
  2. what he hears and sees there and its effect on him (stanza II);
  3. what he hears in his “heart’s core” even when he is far away from Innisfree (stanza III).

Answers-

Innisfree is seen as a beautiful place where we can feel nature is in its frill swing.

  1. The poet wants to build a small hut of clay & wattles. He wants to plant nine rows of beans & keep a hive for the honeybees.

  3. The poet in his “heart’s core” hears the low sounds of the lake water lapping the shore even when he’s far away from Innisfree.

Que 2. By now you may have concluded that Innisfree is a simple, natural place, full of beauty and peace. How does the poet contrast it with where he now stands? ( Read stanza III )

Answer-

The natural beauty of Innisfree is seen in contrast with the city’s roads & pavements. The grey color pavement symbolizes decay & death.

Que 3. Do you think Innisfree is only a place or a state of mind? Does the poet actually miss the place of his boyhood days?

Answer-

The natural beauty of Innisfree is not a creation of the poet. It is an actual place that gives solace to disturbed souls. The poet really wishes to live in this beautiful & peaceful place. He misses both the place and the peace the place used to give him.

  3. It is an ordinary but bewitching scene. The waves strike the lake’s shore to create a sound that is pleasing & soothing.

Que 2. Look at these words;
