IIT Kharagpur Interview experience for ML Research Intern

IIT Kharagpur is an institute of national importance contributing to the technologies of the modern world. It offers a significant contribution to the growing technological advancement of the country.

I applied for the internship through the official internship program of the college and was contacted by the professor after a few weeks stating my application was shortlisted for the technological round.

As this was an internship, the process consisted of two rounds.

Round 1 – Application shortlisting

The first round was application shortlisting where the applications were judged on a prescribed set of criteria and the candidates were shortlisted for the next round. The application was quite simple to fill requiring you to submit all the necessary details like current college, projects, etc., and some information that the candidate wants to showcase.

Round 2 – Technological round

This round was mostly based on ML topics (the reason being, that they were looking for an ML research intern). A varied range of questions were asked. The round started with the basics of ML and dived deep into the algorithms and the associated concerns. We even discussed the further advancements that can be carried out. The main theme, I believe, was mostly focused on how can the current technology be carried out to enhance a better future. This was more than an interview as continuous learning was a core feature. Overall, I believe this was of medium level difficulty but it felt more than it at that particular point of time.
