How to Install Peek on Linux – An Animated GIF recorder on Ubuntu

Peek is an animated GIF recorder for Linux distributions. It is free and open-source software available on Github. Peek can record screen and save them in different formats such as .gif, .mp4, .webm and .apng.

System Requirements for Peek

It is a lightweight software and requires basic configuration:

  • GTK+ >= 3.20
  • GLib >= 2.38
  • FFmpeg >= 3

How to Install Peek

Run the following command on Terminal

sudo apt install peek -y

On installation, you may get the following output which shows installation logs.

 

Record GIF Using Peek

Step 1: Open the peek by entering peek in terminal

peek

 

Or launching the application from the application tray

 

Step 2: The application interface looks as follows:

 

Step 3: We can see that the Record as GIF is selected. Now we can record by pressing the green button as shown in the following example.
