Answer: Fast Ethernet is the standard Ethernet Network which supports a data transfer rate of up to 100 megabits per second (Mbps).
Steps demonstrating data transfer using Fast Ethernet
Step 1: Encoding
Fast Ethernet uses Manchester Encoding, In this each bit is mainly represented by the transition from the high to the low voltage, and also vice versa within the particular time. This Encoding make sure that accurate data transmission is been done.
Step 2: Data Packet Formation
When the device on the particular network wants to send any packet or data, it is basically broken down into the sub packets.
Step 3: MAC Addressing
Ethernet frame consists of Mac addresses for the source and the destination devices. This addressing method helps the routing devices to determine on which destination the data is supposed to be sent.
Step 4: Switching
In the LAN with the Fast Ethernet, the switches are important devices which forwards the data packets within the LAN based on the MAC addresses.
Step 6: Collision Detection
Fast Ethernet uses the carrier sense multiple access with collision detection to prevent the collisions in the network Initially, before sending the data in the network, the devices are listening to the network to make sure that it is collision free.
Step 7: Transmission
If the network is clear, then the devices send their data packets with speed of 100 Mbps as the first Ethernet supports.
Step 8: Reception
When the data is being received, the device processes the information based on the destination mac address, which is been provided in the packet header.
