I recently had the opportunity to interview for a Lead Engineer position at Harman. The interview process consisted of five rounds, including a technical cum managerial round, two technical rounds, a director round, and an HR round. Here’s a detailed account of my interview experience:

Round-1: Technical cum Managerial Round

The first round was a combination of technical and managerial aspects. The manager asked about my project experience and roles and responsibilities. He inquired about the implementation of logging for applications and the establishment of a centralized logging system. Additionally, he asked about different ways to reverse a string and the most efficient approach. I also faced questions related to Spring and Hibernate basics.

Round-2: Technical Round 1

The second technical round focused on Java 8 features, including streams, lambda expressions, the LocalDateTime API, and the Optional class. The interviewer questioned me about implementing filters to intercept requests in an application. I was also given a sentence and asked to find the occurrence of a specific word within it. Furthermore, I faced queries regarding the differences between the get and load methods in Hibernate, JPA versus Hibernate, and the advantages of using JPA. The interview also covered Spring Boot topics, such as excluding the default Tomcat server and auto-configuration feature, etc.

Round-3: Technical Round 2

The third technical round involved an interview with two professionals who assessed my project understanding and flow. They requested a detailed explanation of my project, including the implemented monitoring mechanisms. I was asked if I contributed to open-source projects and faced questions related to JWT versus OAuth implementations. Additionally, the interview touched upon implementing JWT in Spring Boot and discussed topics such as OpenShift.

Round-4: Director Round

The fourth round involved an interview with a director who sought an overview of my projects and roles and responsibilities. I explained the details of my projects, highlighting my contributions and accomplishments. The director also inquired about my expectations regarding the project and why I chose Harman.

Round-5: HR Round

The final round was an HR round that involved discussions about my projects, compensation, and other HR-related matters. We discussed the project in detail and addressed any remaining queries. Compensation, benefits, and company policies were also covered during this round.

I am delighted to share that I successfully completed all five rounds of the interview process for the Lead Engineer position at Harman and received a job offer. The interview experience at Harman was challenging and comprehensive, allowing me to showcase my technical skills, project understanding, and cultural fit within the organization.
