GS Software Interview Experience For Web Designer’s

This is about my first interview for a Web Design post in a private company named G.S. Software located in Salt Lake, Kolkata, West Bengal India. It was on December 21, 2023. The requirements for this role were mentioned in the job profile as skills like HTML5, CSS3, Javascript or Jquery, Bootstrap and Adobe Photoshop.

I went for the technical interview and I was presented with an existing website of a trip guide and hotel booking. My task was to design the same thing from scratch. Although they required JQuery, the thing could be made with javascript alone because javascript has been updated with all the relevant features in ES2022. I was allowed 2 hours for the task. Also, the knowledge of advanced CSS was a crucial requirement.

I observed the whole thing at first and began doing the ones I considered easy for myself like the inclusion of components and icons from Bootstrap. Then I modified or customised those components via custom CSS or Javascript. There was no role for Adobe Photoshop for that assignment.

Then I looked for the font styles and other small differences between my page and the website that I was being assigned. After two hours, the senior guide came and asked whether it was complete. I asked for 10 minutes more. He might not have been happy with the demand but he still gave me 10 minutes, because time management might also be a skill in the companies. I got into a panic and forgot to include some important designs.

After another 10 minutes, he came for the review and showed me the points I left off. One of the main things was the background colour of the whole page, which needed a strong observation to be visible. They were not completely satisfied with my work and told me that they would inform me if I got shortlisted. After 3 days or so, I understood that it was not enough, but the interview gave me experience in the relevant field and also gave me some confidence for the next time I go to another interview and be successful.
