Google Meet now lets you raise your hand in a video call with a cool new gesture feature! When you raise your hand, the system detects it and shows a hand raise icon to let others know you have a question. This awesome AI-powered feature, first announced in March, works best when your hand is visible to the camera and not covering your face or body. Just hold your hand up for a few seconds, and voila! The hand raise icon appears in your video window, and you’re moved to the main grid so moderators can see you want to speak. Get ready to show off your virtual hand-raising skills

Users will need to go to their settings and turn on the tool

Give High-fi to the newest feature rolling down on your Google Meet windows. Google Meet is making it easy for people to join meetings. The video meeting site now has an AI tool that makes it look more natural to raise your hand.

What is New with the Google Meet

In the past, people who wanted to speak in a meeting had to click on an icon that looked like a hand. With a new type of “gesture detection,” Google has made the action easier. Now, a person only needs to raise their hand to hit the icon.

The one using it has to raise their hand in front of the camera so that the camera can see their whole hand. They have to ensure their hand is not covering their face or body. The hand raise symbol will go away from the screen when they are given the chance to speak. It means they are no longer waiting to speak.

Remember!

To ensure your gesture is selected up, ensure your camera is on and that your hand is not covering your face or body. When you are an active speaker, gesture recognition won’t occur. When you are no longer the active speaker, it will resume.

Who can avail Google’s new Hand-raise feature?

Google Workspace Business Plus, Business Standard, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Starter, Education Plus, customers with the Teaching and Learning Upgrade, and Google Workspace Individual users can use it.

How’s Google’s Raise Hand gesture Useful

The new function is the same as pressing the hand raise button, but it will make you feel like you’re back in school. Besides being nostalgic, this function could be helpful in many ways. For example, if you’re not at the computer mouse but still want to be called on by the speaker, you can do that without having to walk over and over. What if you answered the call while eating lunch? Your hands are probably dirty now. Hopefully, you get the point.

Who are Moderators

The person who sets up or starts the meeting is the meeting host. If you move or name a meeting on someone else’s calendar, that person might be in charge of the meeting. Any meeting starts with just one host, but you can add up to 25 co-hosts once the meeting begins.

Moderators are told when hands are raised in the order that they were raised. When someone talks or asks a question, you can take their hand away so that someone else can speak.

How to Enable Google Meet’s Hand Raise Gesture Feature

Step 1: Open Settings on Google Meet

Choose ‘More Options’ and then click ‘Settings’ while you are in the meeting.

Step 2: Select “Reaction”

At the left-hand side of the window, tap on the “Reaction” button.

Step 3: Turn on the “Hand Raise Gesture”

Now enable the “Hand Raise Gesture”. The motion for raising your hand is off by default, but it can be turned on in the settings.

Features of Hand Raise Gesture

  • To use gesture recognition to raise your hand, ensure the feature is switched on in your settings and your camera is on.
  • In a video call, you can raise your hand with your hand. When you raise your hand, the highlighted Hand Raise icon shows up, and everyone on the call can see it.

  • You must be able to see one hand and keep it away from your face and body for this function to work.
  • When you speak in a meeting, gesture recognition is turned off. Gesture recognition starts up again when you’re not talking on the call.
