Upon high user demands, Google’s AI chatbot, Google Bard finally gets its new capabilities to generate and debug codes in more than 20 coding languages along with the ability to explain the codes to the users.

Google Bard Can Now Generate And Debug Code

The CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai recently spilled the beans in an interview that their AI chatbot, Google Bard will soon be getting updates. Following his statements, on April 21, 2023, Google announced that it is updating Google Bard by incorporating the ability to generate, debug and explain codes into the AI chatbot.

Google Bard can now be used by software developers for assisting them in programming software by generating codes in not just a few but more than 20 languages including Python, C++, and JavaScript.

The company mentioned the same in its blog post:

“Starting now, Bard can help with programming and software development tasks, including code generation, debugging, and code explanation. We’re launching these capabilities in more than 20 programming languages including C++, Go, Java, Javascript, Python, and Typescript. And you can easily export Python code to Google Colab — no copy and paste required. Bard can also assist with writing functions for Google Sheets.”

The company said that Bard will also be able to debug the codes including the ones written through Bard itself. Google explained how the users can prompt the AI chatbot to debug the code if it shows an error upon running the code. All the users need to do is tell Bard “This code didn’t work, please fix it” and the chatbot will debug the code for them.

The code explanation ability of the AI chatbot will allow users who find it hard to understand codes or want a detailed explanation of how a particular code generates output to take the help of Google Bard and let it explain the lines of the codes to them.

In case the users want their codes to be faster, they can also optimize their codes by responding to Bard’s initial output with the same. Google posted visual examples of how the users can use Bard for generating, debugging, and getting explanations of the codes.

The company developed and launched Google Bard, an interactive AI chatbot earlier this year to compete with the revolutionary ChatGPT. Google claims that its generative AI is already aiding people in easing their complex tasks meanwhile a lot of users labeled the AI chatbot to be less accurate than its rivals.

“Bard is still an early experiment, and may sometimes provide inaccurate, misleading, or false information while presenting it confidently. When it comes to coding, Bard may give you working code that doesn’t produce the expected output, or provide you with code that is not optimal or incomplete. Always double-check Bard’s responses and carefully test and review code for errors, bugs, and vulnerabilities before relying on it. Despite these challenges, we believe Bard’s new capabilities can help you by offering new ways to write code, create test cases, or update APIs.”

The company considers that Google Bard can indeed help users, especially software developers, and engineers to explore new ways to write and generate codes and simplify their lives.
