Google announces new generative AI search capabilities for doctors

Google Cloud announced AI-powered search tools on Monday to quickly retrieve verified healthcare data from medical records.

Leveling up to a more advanced level in the healthcare industry, Google Cloud is all set to launch its new feature in Vertex AI Search at HLTH’23. This new AI-generative version will ease the challenging work of searching and gathering clinical data like FHIR data and medical information. Google Health’s search and summarization tools, including the Healthcare API and Healthcare Data Engine from its trial product, will be used as part of this project. Users of Google Cloud can now access early access to Vertex AI Search for healthcare and life sciences.

Recently, it has been reported by CAQH that in the year 2022, the economy and budget for administration have rapidly increased to $60 billion a year, which means 30% more than the previous year. Another study shows that the US will need to onboard over 3.2 million medical assistants, home health aides, and nurses in the coming five years. Vertex AI’s Search features will provide excellent support to Healthcare and Life science companies by saving time and making the process more efficient and smooth. Vertex AI Search will bring down the additional work of the administration departments of medical organizations and help resolve problems like a lack of staff.

According to Burak Gokturk, Google Cloud’s vice president and general manager of Cloud AI and Industry Solutions, integrating Google-quality, next-generation AI search capabilities into every system in an organization, including electronic health records (EHRs), could boost efficiency, assist doctors in making better decisions, and improve patient care. We are committed to improving Vertex AI Search’s capabilities for medical and science-related organizations since we know the correct data and insights at the right time can boost health.

Using foundation models, Vertex AI Search can construct question-and-answer and conversation search apps. The new tools allow the organization to preserve generational AI findings on its data, making that easy. The healthcare and life sciences technologies Vertex AI Search demonstrated will make patient data searches for medical information faster and easier.

Google Cloud users own their data. Medical facilities may secure patient data by using Google Cloud’s reliable infrastructure and safe data storage that supports HIPAA compliance, coupled with their security, privacy, and controls. Healthcare API, Healthcare Data Engine, and Vertex AI Search obey HIPAA. New Vertex AI Search tools assist healthcare and life sciences companies in complying with HIPAA.

It is said Vish Anantraman, chief technology officer of the Mayo Clinic, that “Healthcare is a data-intensive industry with a majority of the medical knowledge locked up in unstructured documents and text.” “New search functionality from Vertex AI provides Mayo Clinic new capabilities to use data to support a wide range of applications.”

“Now that we’ve moved our significant data, applications workload, and other IT resources from on-premises to Google Cloud,” Kash Patel, executive vice president and chief digital information officer at Hackensack Meridian Health, said, “using gen AI for search over our enterprise data has the potential to dramatically improve the information and insights we can deliver to our clinicians and our other team members.” “Data is at the core of how we are modernizing healthcare, and Vertex AI Search for healthcare and life sciences will help us make the most of our data.”

“Highmark Health’s blended approach connects payers, providers, tech innovators, and community organizations to build a health ecosystem that works better for everyone. We call this Living Health,” said Richard Clarke, chief analytics officer for Highmark Health. “Artificial intelligence, including generative AI, plays a key role in how we are enabling Living Health, and we are interested in how Vertex AI Search could help us simplify the experience and make it more personal, accessible, and helpful for providers and patients.”

We’re happy to have provided a customer with Google Health’s search and summary features in our Expanse EHR. MEDITECH senior vice president and COO Helen Waters aims to investigate how Vertex AI Search may empower doctors and patients in the future. “These capabilities can do more than just synthesize information; they can organize and surface the most important information to help overworked care teams in their workflow,” stated.

Google Cloud customers may employ Med-PaLM 2, a medically tailored large language model, and healthcare and life sciences-focused Vertex AI Search. Vertex AI Search’s healthcare and life sciences components provide patient-record-based search tools. Med-PaLM 2’s extensive medical expertise will complement these. Both tools help healthcare groups locate the latest answers to challenging medical queries faster and more accurately, regardless of where they originate from.

What is vertex ai?

Google Cloud created Vertex AI, a cloud-based ML tool. It allows users to:

  • Make and distribute AI and machine learning technologies.
  • Create large language models.
  • Build ML models using pre-trained or bespoke tools.
  • Cloud monitoring and logging are recommended.
  • Customize alerts and notifications.
  • Vertex AI integrates data science, machine learning, and engineering. It also has standard APIs for every model.
  • It was created to help ML model creators overcome several issues. This utility supports all Google cloud services.
