TCS Chief Operations Officer, N Ganapathy Subramaniam, announces their plans to build their own Generative AI Tech, which will be closely based upon ChatGPT to use it for enterprise code generation.

TCS Plans to Build Generative AI Tech Similar to ChatGPT

India’s biggest IT services-based company and the leading tech giant Tata Consultancy Services’ COO, N Ganapathy Subramaniam, recently revealed in an interview with Businessline that they are heading towards building their own Generative AI Tech to compete and update their systems amidst the growing tech. The aim is to use Generative AI tech for code generation within the enterprise and provide their clients with infringement-free solutions.

The company has been contributing to major developments and advancements in the field of AI. Over the decades, it has already developed a wide range of AI and machine learning solutions for its clients. With the development of its own Generative AI tech, the company aims to take its a notch higher and ensure a seamless advancement in its functioning and services.

As per the company, it will use in-house proprietary algorithms in its AI. The algorithms utilize large language modeling functions, just like in the case of the Generative AI chatbot, ChatGPT.

Subramaniam stated:

“The way we look at it, it (generative AI) uses past code, data, and experience to learn. Over the many years that TCS has been in business, I can use all of my knowledge as a base. So, if that technology uses and generates code that I have taught the algorithm using TCS proprietary data, then the outcome is something that I am willing to license.”

The Introduction of Prompt Engineers

With the development of Generative AI tech, N Ganapathy Subramaniam sees the potential of creating new roles, precisely that of “prompt engineers.” As per him, prompt engineers would be as critical as any other engineering role in the enterprise.

These professionals will be technically trained to communicate contextual queries to large language models efficiently and effectively.

“So, one of the things that we are hearing in the market is that how you prompt the questions to generative AI platforms is very important, right? So, we are conceptualizing a role called ‘prompt engineers’ within the organization. We are yet to get approval on it. Still, we know this role will be as critical as having engineering, mathematical, or analytical skills,” Subramaniam quoted.

When will TCS roll out its AI?

Although the development of the Generative AI model is still in its initial stages, the company is planning to roll out some of the solutions before May 2024. The COO, N Ganapathy Subramaniam, will be retiring from the company in 2024, and the company is planning to launch its AI before his tenure ends.

A substantial advancement in AI and machine learning has been made by TCS’s efforts to create generative AI technology akin to ChatGPT. TCS is in a good position to develop a highly advanced and effective generative artificial intelligence model that can be employed in various industries because of its extensive experience in this field.
