I am sharing my experience as a club representative for my department during the final year of my undergraduate studies. Here is how I got nominated as a Class Representative.

It was June 2021, and I was in the final year of my B.Sc. in Computer Science at Lady Doak College, Madurai. During this time, the pandemic had shifted all classes online. Our department hosted a club with various interactive sessions, including webinars, fests, and contests. An election was conducted to choose club members, and although I had not initially considered becoming a member, I eventually decided to participate. The elected members included a president, vice-president, treasurer, and secretary. Following the election, our faculty sought volunteers to be class representatives for the club. Initially, there were no takers, and the student who had served as the class representative for the past two years was chosen. However, my class faculty proposed the role to me, and with encouragement from friends, I accepted the offer, viewing it as an opportunity to showcase my skills and innovation.

My Responsibilities as a Class Representative

As a class representative during the pandemic, I found myself immersed in various responsibilities. I assisted classmates with assignments and engaged in online seminars and webinars organized by our department. Despite facing obstacles, including preparing for my postgraduate degree through the TANCET Examination, I remained committed to my role. The support of my friends proved crucial in managing the workload and overcoming the associated pressures. Additionally, I represented my class in college activities and participated in major events organized by both the college and our department.

Our department hosted several club competitions, covering both technical and non-technical events, allowing us to showcase our talents. I actively participated and encouraged my peers to join. In one such event, I secured third place in the digital poster-making competition the previous year. Eager to participate again, I registered for the Art from Waste non-technical event. Using a waste diary sheet and cardboard, I created a miniature laptop for the given theme of constructing a model of a day-to-day appliance. The results were announced at the end of the competition, revealing my third-place victory. As a class representative, my involvement played a significant role in our success, earning widespread appreciation.

Recognition and Reflection

Having served as the class representative for nearly a year, from June 2021 to June 2022, I received a certificate of recognition from the department. The certificate acknowledged my exemplary qualities, including analytical thinking, creativity, interpersonal skills, leadership, and team spirit demonstrated during my undergraduate study. This experience enriched my life, allowing me to showcase my talents and abilities on my resume and aiding in successful interviews.
