The objective of the Central Sector Scholarship

Central Sector Scholarship is a type of merit-cum-means scholarship. The main object of the Central Sector Scholarship is to provide financial aid to meritorious students who belong to poor families. This financial aid helps them for their higher study.

Central Sector Scholarship – Awards

The amount of this scheme varies based on the level of education and the nature of course. The award distribution is described below –

  • Graduation Level : For college and university courses level, a student will get INR 12,000 per annum for the first three years.
  • Post-Graduation Level : Postgraduate level students will get INR 20,000 per annum.
  • Professional Courses (5 Years/Integrated) : INR 20,000 per annum will be provided in the 4th and 5th year of a 5 year course.
  • Technical Courses : For technical courses such as B.Tech, B.Engg. courses students will get INR 12,000 per annum for the first, second and third year and INR 20,000 will be provided in 4th year.

Central Sector Scholarship – Eligibility Criteria

For the central sector scholarship, the following eligibility criteria must be needed –

  • In Class 12th of 10+2 pattern or equivalent, a student must scored minimum 80% .
  • Only regular degree courses students can apply for this scholarship. Correspondence or distant courses students are not eligible for this scheme.
  • The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and relevant regulatory bodie’s recognized institute or college students are eligible for the scholarship.
  • When a student apply for this scholarship, he/she is not eligible for any other scholarships.
  • The annual family income of the student must not be exceeded INR 4.5 lakh.
  • If a student changes the college or institute and then he/she will apply for this scholarship from the new institute, the new institute must have a valid AISHE (All India Survey on Higher Education) code.
  • For renewal scholarship, the two things must be required , 50% marks in the annual examination and 75% attendance.

Reservation

To get benefit of reservation on the basis of merit , the Students should be belonging to reserved categories/weaker sections /minorities etc. The reservation is as follows –

  • 15% seats are earmarked for SCs
  • 7.5% for STs
  • 27 % for OBCs
  • 5% horizontal reservation for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs)

To fill the Central sector scholarship form, a student has to follow the following steps –

  • Visit the official NSP site ( scholarships.gov.in ).
  • If you are a new user then you have to register on NSP site.

  • Click on the “New Registration tab under Applicant Corner and fill the all details.
  • Once the registration is done, you will get the generated User ID or Application ID and password.
  • Now you have to log in by providing the Application ID and password.

  • A new page will be redirected. This is the Application form.
  • Fill the application form by providing all the necessary details correctly.
  • After the completion of form fill up, you have to check the application form very carefully.
  • And then press on the submit button. This is your final submit of your application.

How to apply Central Sector scholarship?

To make the application process easy and accessible for applicants, MHRD allows students to fill the scholarship application form online through the government scholarship portal, the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

Can I apply for Central Sector scholarship in 3rd year?

No, a student shall only be considered for scholarship in the year of commencement of his/her course. For subsequent year of course, only renewal will be allowed. So you cannot apply as a fresh if you are a Renewal candidate. Your application will be rejected in that case.

What is central sector scheme?

Central sector schemes are 100% funded by the Union government and implemented by the Central Government machinery. In Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) a certain percentage of the funding is borne by the States and the implementation is by the State Governments.

Who is eligible for CG scholarship?

The annual family income of the students must not exceed ₹2,50,000 in the case of SC/ST applicants and ₹1,00,000 in the case of OBC applicants. The candidates must be studying at the post-matriculation level.
