I was selected by Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Company in campus selection. I was very excited as the role offered was my dream role. Being able to work with BAGIC on the Java backend and Java-based technologies is truly a great opportunity.

Intended Audience: This article is intended for BTech students who wish to gain some insight into the interview procedure and which resources are needed. Although this is my experience and some notes I took from my peer it will not exactly translate to your interview. I hope it will be helpful to you in some way.

About BAGIC: Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Company or BAGIC, as fondly called by the employees. It is a joint venture between Allianz SE and Bajaj Finserv Limited and it provides all types of life insurance plans.

Recruitment process:

Job Description- We were introduced to the BAGIC team and given a detailed introduction about the company, Job description and salary breakdown.

  1. BAGIC intended to hire students who had knowledge and some experience in these technologies.
  2. API and Backend.
  3. Java-based frameworks
  4. SQL

Tip- Java was the particular focus of the recruitment procedure. Students with knowledge of Java, Android Studio and SpringBoot were given more attention. Each round had some non-technical questions and along with technical questions they also had points.

Round 1: Technical Round 1

My first round was about 20 minutes and was based on what I had mentioned in my resume. Initially, I was asked basic questions and then moved deeper as I answered any particular question. Overall there were around 8 questions with each question having points for both softskill and accuracy of the answer given.

Non-technical questions:

  1. Tell me about yourself.
  2. Why did you choose these technologies?

Technical questions:

Technical questions were based on,

  1. Core Java.
  2. Linux (Ubuntu)
  3. Git-GitHub

Round 2: Technical Round 2

My second round was about 30 minutes and was also based on my resume. This round was very in-depth in terms of technical questions. Overall there were around 12 questions. I was told to draw diagrams for every technical question I answered.

Non-technical questions:

  1. Hobbies.
  2. Participated in events and contests.

Technical questions:

  1. Java Collections framework.
  2. Streams and Lambdas.
  3. Spring, SpringBoot, SpringSecurity, Spring MVC.
  4. Discussion about the Projects mentioned in the resume.

Tip- Have a detailed understanding of the projects mentioned in the resume. This can cause elimination if the interviewer is not satisfied with the answers.

Round 3: Technical Round 3

My third round was about 20 minutes and was based on my resume and some other technologies not mentioned in the resume. This round was mixed in terms of technical questions and non-technical questions. Overall there were around 10 questions.

Non-technical questions:

Non-technical questions in this round were particularly exciting as these were scenario-based and to see if you are flexible in terms of work and technologies. I was told that they no longer required a Java backend position and I was told to convince them that wh they should hire still me. There were a few more questions such as if a major system occurred during holidays then as Team lead how will you convince your team to work on holidays?

Technical questions:

  1. DBMS concepts.
  2. I was given problem statements and asked to write SQL queries.
  3. I was asked a few DSA-related questions and simple pattern printing code snippets.
  4. Basics of Cloud.

Tip- Have a growth mindset and be open to new views/changes, don’t have a fixed mindset.

Round 4: HR Round

This was the final elimination round and mostly consisted of behavioural and personality-based questions. HR did ask a few questions where he intended to see if I had done company research before the interview. This round did focus heavily on soft skills. In the end, I was asked by HR, ” Are you willing to work in multiple Java-based technologies as required ? “. Later I learnt this was a common question to all and those who hesitated or said no were eliminated.

Round 5: Behavioural Round (Web-based video interview)

This took place after 4 days of my selection. This was a non-elimination round and was about 1 hour, with 10 questions requiring a minimum of 3-minute answer.

My thoughts: I liked the seamless and well-structured interview process and the interview team was full of knowledge and experience. Our college’s Training and placement office took great care for the smooth conduction of the interview process.

Interview preparation Resources:

  1. Core Java and DSA, DSA in Java by CodingNinja.
  2. Java Collections and Backend using SpringBoot Java Backend Development Live by GFG.
  3. SpringBoot 3 with its support technologies SpringBoot 3 in dept by Udemy.
