Aditya Birla Group Interview Experience for GET 2023

Aditya Birla Group visited our campus to hire final-year students(2023 Batch). Mechanical, Electrical and Power department were allowed to sit for the online assessment. But for some specific roles, some departments were only selected. There were mainly three rounds, the first was a Computer Based Online Recruitment Test (on Amcat). Followed by group discussion and technical interview. There was no negative marking. Both the online assessment and the interviews were held online. 

Round 1 (Online Assessment): The exam consisted of 5 sections. The questions were easy but the time given was small.

  • English: This section was of 16 minutes and had 20 questions. The questions asked were comprehension, jumbled sentences, and fill-in-blanks.
  • Aptitude:  This section was of 20 minutes and had 20 questions. The questions asked were on time and work, linear equations, time and distance, functions, etc.
  • Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning: The section was of 16 minutes and had 18 questions. The questions were of consisted of pattern recognition, next term of series, situation-based questions, and paragraph-based questions.
  • Psychometric:  The section was of 18 minutes and had 75 questions. The questions  were standard but one has to be very fast to answer all.
  • Technical:  The section was of 20 minutes and had 20 questions. The questions were asked from boiler and mechanical related questions from thermodynamics heat transfer etc.

After this round 27 students were selected from mechanical, 30 from civil and 13 from power department for the group discussion round. This interview experience was of my friends and I will try to be as elaborate as possible.

Round 2 (Group Discussion): A case study was given and 2 minutes were given to think on the topic. Then each member of the group had to speak on the topic and discuss the case. The case stated that a plane had crashed and five persons have died like a terrorist, RAW agent, doctor’s assistant, cricketer and a businessman. There is a vial which can make dead person alive for 3 days. So who can be given the vial and why was the case given which was to be discussed. 

Round 3 (Technical Interview): This interview was for about 15-20 minutes. There were two panelists in the interview. The questions asked were mainly on resume based, projects and on boiler concepts. One of my friend had mentioned a live project he had done in a thermal power plant and thus he was asked:

  • Introduce yourself
  • Tell about your academic career
  • What is the project you have done? (He had done a project on Flue gas desulphurisation)
  • What is the process in the project?
  • Can you share with us what analysis you have made and give us the values you have got?
  • Who is the customer of your project? 
  • Can u tell if you have done any cost effective implementation recently anywhere be it projects, over learnings?
  • Why do we need a condenser?
  • What is your view on higher studies?
  • What is your family background?
  •  If you are are told something to learn, how will u approach and what are the primary qualities necessary for effective learning?
  • Are u comfortable with relocation?

One of my friend had interview totally based on thermal power plant and boiler.

  • Why efficiency is less in thermal power plant?
  • What is function of condenser?
  • Types of turbine.
  • What is the efficiency of each system of a thermal power plant?
  • How do you generate electricity from solar power?(He had mentioned project on power generation from solar power.)
  • What do you know about ABG?
  • What is good about ABG?
  • Where do you want to see in future?
  • What job do you want to do on site or desk job ?

One of my friend had her resume which was focussed on electrical subjects.

  • Tell me about yourself and tell us about your family background.
  • What projects have you done? (She had done a project on PLC SCADA Automation)
  • What are the equations needed from your project in the thermal power plant?
  • What is the main focus on your project which can be used in the thermal power plant?
  • Then they had asked about different cycles like Carnot cycle, Rankine cycle etc
  • How does AC circuit  and DC circuit work? What is the difference?
  • How does single phase work? What are its principles?
  • They had asked questions about solar energy
  • How does a battery work? Explain the design of the battery
  • Do you want to relocate?
  • Do you have any friends who currently work in ABG?

After this round 7 students were selected from power, 8 from civil and 6 from mechanical department.
