Where is Leaning Tower of Pisa?

The Leaning Tower of Pisa, also known as the Tower of Pisa, is situated in the Tuscany region of Italy and stands in the catholic cathedral’s square. It is a freestanding bell tower or campanile for the cathedral of Pisa. The square is called the Piazza dei Miracoli or Campo Dei Miracoli, which is translated to ‘Square of Miracles.

The Tower is a huge attraction for tourists, and it is a must-see if you are ever in Tuscany. The Leaning Tower of Pisa height is 183 feet tall from the low ground and 185 feet tall from the high ground. The Tower may have toppled over long ago, but it was stabilized in the year 2001, which reduced the tilt of the building from five-point five degrees to three-point nine seven degrees. While the inside the Tower of Pisa is completely empty, you can go in and climb the tower after buying a ticket and see the city from the top.

The architecture of the Tower of Pisa

No known architect was responsible for the architecture and construction of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The Tower’s construction began in the 12th Century, the year 1172, and took two more centuries for its completion.

Two famous artists, Guglielmo and Bonano Pisano, who lived in the city of Pisa during the 12th Century are associated with the design of the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Bonano Pisano was known for his Bronze castings, and due to the fact that a bronze casting with his name was found outside the Tower in 1820, people believed that he was the main architect behind it. However, a 2001 study suggested that Diotisalvie may have been the architect for other buildings of Pisa built around that time, like the San Nicola bell tower and the Baptistry located in the Square of Miracles.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa

The Leaning Tower of Pisa’s construction was started in the year 1172 and was completed in three stages. It is famous for the tilt, the building has, towards the south; the Leaning Tower of Pisa is a product of an error. This occurred because of the building’s construction and architecture — the tilt of the bell tower was over five degrees due to the peaceful grounds beneath the building and the foundation of the building was not laid correctly.

Since the Leaning Tower of Pisa is tilted in the southward region the height of the tower is measured two ways, one from the lower ground and another from the higher ground, the height of the tower is 183 and 185 feet tall, respectively. It is eight-story long and is a beautiful work of art made out of marbles. Due to the wars breaking out in Italy, the construction of the Tower was halted for nearly a century. As much as the tower is beautiful from the outside, it is empty inside the Tower of Pisa.
