Techno Main Salt Lake Campus Experience

A FORMAL INTRODUCTION

Stepping into college life right after school can be exhilarating as well as a little bit of tedious if you do not know your way around. It is a place where students can learn, grow, hone their skills and make memories to cherish forever. However, it can also turn out to be difficult if things go unchecked especially by newcomers. Needless to say, this post has been created just to make students feel a little bit comfortable, if not fully, who are going into college.

ABOUT MY COLLEGE

I am an undergrad, pursuing BTech (IT), in , Kolkata. It is just the average college for students, not too ambitious like IITs, etc and not too low (below par). The campus ground covers around 3 acres of area, with 4 buildings in total. The Techno university building, BTech building, Library building and the School building. We have got 2 football sized fields along with a swimming pool. Other miscellaneous structures include the canteen and an auditorium. We have got a good array of faculty, teachers, staff all willing to help you in any way possible. Not to mention the air conditioned computer laboratories, chemistry, physics, electrical among other such labs. We also got well decked up classrooms (majority of them air conditioned) with smart board technologies.

MY COLLEGE LIFE

• First year of college : Navigating through my first year of college was a whole another level for me. As someone, who had ample time to study for the school final exams, it soon turned out to be challenging for me to complete the college syllabus in just 3 months. On top of that class assignments, practical assignment, internal exams, practical exams turned out to be a day-to-day hassle for me.
• Second year of college : Now my second year turned out to be more fruitful for me as I learnt the nooks and crannies and grasped on the college life system. One thing that I leaned was time management was very important as that will carry you through the semesters.
• Third year of college : As I moved up, studies became a little less important and skills, projects, community build up became more important. During this time of the phase, its all about deploying whatever skills you learned throughout the first 2 years.

SOCIETIES IN COLLEGE

There are many societies and communities in our college for students to delve into beside the usual academic curriculum.

1. There is a Sports society (technOTKARSH) which deals with regular tournaments, matches, sports days.
2. Geekonix is the official tech club of our college so students with coding background and likewise can have good exposure in this group.
3. For literary purposes and experience in civil services, students can join the Samarth group.
4. Students who see to the welfare of the society will find the group Samaritans to vibe with.
5. The club Ankuran hosts cultural fests, programs, and such things.
6. Last but not the least IIC is the club which almost deals with anything and everything including coding, literature, etc.

COLLEGE FESTS AND HACKATHONS

The main college fest Anakronos is held every year after the freshers party. Departmental fests are no ordinary, held by exclusive departments like IT, CSE, BCA, FT and so. Eastern India’s largest tech fest “Edge” is held in our very college grounds with participants coming outside Kolkata too. Internal hackathons are held time to time for ardent web developers. Students are eligible to participate in SIH, SBH too through our college. Individual hackathons are also conducted by the respective societies.

PLACEMENTS

The Placement Cell at Techno Main Salt Lake is responsible for all placement associated activities of the institute. The placement website (www.tigplacement.com) at this institute provides all information related to the latest campus related activities.

Placement at this college is top notch with atmost 80% of students getting placed in well established companies. Companies like Wipro, Cognizant, IBM, Amazon, to name a few come to our college for recruitment purposes.
