The two biggest electronics and manufacturing giants, Sony and Honda are planning to join hands in the development of the future i.e., Electric Vehicles. Both companies are on the way to signing a memorandum of understanding in which they both will be coming together in the launch of new companies by the end of 2022 specifically for these products.

According to the spokesperson of Sony and Honda, the products and services will be available from the year 2025. The first countries to receive the services will be Europe, Japan, and North America.

Although this will not be Sony’s first attempt in the complete automobile manufacturing, as before that they have also contributed to the world with CES, a concept car completely packed with sensors and cameras, in the year 2020. The design of the vehicle demonstrated the autonomous Vision S concept and how it would find its own way in this new self-driving era. Around that time only they expressed their plans of entering into the electronic vehicle market.

However, this will be their alliance with Honda, but the company has claimed to draw all the expertise with their products. Using parts used by Sony in any of the vehicles will be as same as deploying your vehicle from any kind of accident. In this collaboration, Honda will be managing the manufacturing part and mobility services of the vehicle while Sony will take care of the network, entertainment technology, imaging, and sensing. The first sale of the product will start in the year 2025. Though it is a future vision, both the companies are very excited to launch their products in the market.

Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida said in his comment,

“Through this alliance with Honda, which has accumulated extensive global experience and achievements in the automobile industry over many years and continues to make revolutionary advancements in this field, we intend to build on our vision to ‘make the mobility space an emotional one,’ and contribute to the evolution of mobility centered around safety, entertainment, and adaptability.”

He also added,

“In the joint venture, we would like to lead the mobility revolution by combining our technology and experience with Honda’s long experience in mobile development and vehicle body manufacturing technologies.”

Talking about financial details the companies did not tell anything about it. This massive step is also being taken so as to reduce the carbon emission in the environment and electric vehicles are the best alternatives for that. Besides this, Honda is under pressure to reduce the carbon emissions coming from its vehicles.

Toshihiro Mibe, chief executive of Honda Motor said,

“The new company will aim to stand at the forefront of innovation, evolution, and expansion of mobility around the world, by taking a broad and ambitious approach to creating value that exceeds the expectations and imagination of customers.”

Both the companies also confirmed that they will be signing several binding agreements which will be including joint venture deals and joint-development agreements and expect to start the company by the end of this year.
