Suzuki Signs Deal With SkyDrive To Develop Electric Flying Cars

Synopsis – The companies are planning to launch electric cars primarily in the Indian Market, through which they are trying to push and diversify their goals of launching electric vehicles. In one of the previous reports, it was also said that the market of air taxis may grow up to $1700 trillion, by the year 2040. 

One of the biggest automakers of the world Suzuki is all set to do a partnership with SkyDrive Inc to develop Electric Flying Cars. Both the companies confirmed on Tuesday that they are teaming up for research, development, and marketing of electric ‘Flying’ vehicles. 

The major research is to be done on the takeoff and landing part as this will be the first concept in the history of mankind. Both the companies in their joint statement said that they are focusing upon the new markets and their initial focus will be India as Suzuki has roughly half of the market share in the country. 

Also, Skydrive tweeted regarding the same on their official Twitter handle and wrote, “We’re delighted to announce that we have signed a strategic partnership agreement with Suzuki Motor Corporation for the commercialization of flying cars.”
 

On Sunday Suzuki announced its plan of investing around 104.4 billion rupees ($1.37 billion) in its factories in India in order to produce batteries and electric vehicles. 

Also, with this new deal, Suzuki will have a fourth mobility business along with outboard motors, automobiles, and motorcycles. Although, the companies did not disclose about the investment that they will be doing in this partnership nor about the target which they are planning. Established in the year 2018, Skydrive is the company with its headquarters in Tokyo and is counted among the companies.

It also does business with big corporations including, NEC Corp which is a unit of energy company Eneos Holdings Inc one of the main shareholders. 

Currently, Skydrive is involved in developing two-seater, compact, electric-powered flying cars, which they are thinking of doing a full-fledged production. Although, there is no confirmation from the side of Suzuki that they are involved in the same project or not. 

Apart from this, the company is already in the manufacturing of Cargo Drones and is aiming to launch ‘Flying Cars’ in the World Expo which will be hosted in Japan in the year 2025.
