NCERT Solutions for Class 9 English Moments Chapter 3 Iswaran The Storyteller

Think about it

Que 1. In what way is Iswaran an asset to Mahendra?

Answer-

Iswaran was Mahendra’s cook who accompanied him uncomplainingly wherever he was posted. He handled all the tasks, including preparing meals, washing, and having conversations at midnight with Mahendra. He also used to entertain him by creating imaginative stories. So, Iswaran was an asset to Mahendra.

Que 2. How does Iswaran describe the uprooted tree on the highway? What effect does he want to create in his listeners?

Answer-

The Tamil literature significantly inspired Iswaran. He used dramatic effect when narrating the uprooted tree and lifted his elbows and hands to add to the suspense of his tale. He claimed to be alone himself and that nobody was on the route. He noticed what appeared to be a huge beast laying across the street but when he got nearer, all he found was a fallen tree. Basically, his main purpose was to create suspense for listeners.

Que 3. How does he narrate the story of the tusker? Does it appear to be plausible?

Answer-

Iswaran was a great storyteller and narrated the story of the tusker in his own unique way. An elephant goes mad and loses all control. He walks onto a playground of the school where he himself was also a student. The playground was filled with children who all were playing. All of the kids rushed into their classrooms as soon as they noticed the wild elephant. Iswaran makes the brave decision to control the mad elephant. He approaches the elephant while holding a cane. On his third toe, he strikes the animal and made him collapse.

It does not appear to be plausible as it is very unlikely that a kid of this age could manage a restless elephant. Beating a huge mammal with a stick on the toenail making to his collapse, by a junior class boy doesn’t seem to be realistic and plausible for any acceptance of it as truth.
