I was one of the first to interview for SDE at JPMC because they were starting early in the morning. Since I had a lot of shortlists in that slot, I decided to begin my day early. The whole interview process went very smoothly and they were very supportive.

I had 2 technical rounds, each with 2 interviewers in the panel. In both rounds, they closely looked over my CV.

Round 1:

After a brief introduction, they asked me to describe my 2nd-year internship project which was based on Machine Learning so the interview started with ML questions. They wanted me to provide a very intuitive definition of what is ML such that anybody who doesn’t know anything about ML can also understand it; followed by very detailed and conceptual questions on regression, deep learning and CNN layer related parameters.

Then, there were two coding questions.

  • One was from DP and I don’t remember what the second question was (Probably Trie based). There was a research paper from my internship so we discussed that.

Round 2:

Asked to explain my 3rd-year internship project. Then there was one data structure based question where I had to design a notepad-like application with few features (returning the word number on using find command, editing or deleting words and few others). Gave the approach and they were satisfied so asked me to write the class on paper. Went on right direction so told its fine then started discussing doubly linked list and hash map as most of my projects were computer vision based so they asked a related question Suppose you are provided with election voting papers in which voters have put their respective seals in front of their preferred candidates now you have to count votes to each candidate I started with Haar-cascade but they weren’t sure if it will work so explained my approach.

I had a very, long discussion and was asked to write the code on paper.

After that, they asked me about my PORs and individual contributions in Alcher. What was the difference in your approach that brought results this time?

Final round:

This round was with a VP. It wasn’t technical but an informal one. He told me that I can relax now as I am already selected based on my reviews from technical round since I was getting calls from other companies also. We had an amazing discussion on mathematics, books, probability, life in IIT etc. He also gave me a mental maths problem to solve with a timer.

I hope you get clear idea after going through these experiences. The whole process may look daunting for now but trust me Once you get placed you will love this phase. These are tough times I know but you will make it if you do proper preparation.
