I have completed my 12th in 2020 from the CBSE board and secured 90.8%(PCM). My JEE preparation story begins in class 10. It was after our preboards that one of my school teachers told us about IITs and how prestigious they are. That was the first time, I heard about IITs. Also, that was the moment I decided that I will definitely study there. After my class-10 board exams were over, I started researching IITs and got to know about JEE(Mains) and JEE Advance. I started reading stories of people who cleared these exams and are currently studying in those premier institutes.

And the Journey Begins:

Then, after my class 10 results were declared, I took admission to Kendriya Vidyalaya. But like most of the other aspirants, as I started y class-11, the subjects seemed to be very hard and the syllabus seemed to be very vast. Fast forward to class- 12, I almost dropped my JEE preparation and I was focusing only on my board exams. In December, the first session of JEE Mains took place. But, since I was so much into boards, I didn’t even appear for the first session.

The Turning Point:

Then, after my class-12 board exams, covid came and I had nothing to do. This was the time, I decided to prepare for JEE Mains and give it a shot. I filled up the JEE Mains form which was reopened for the last time. I referred to my own notes which I made for board exams. My exam was on 5th September 2020. My exam didn’t go well, but it went quite well as per my preparation. Results came and I got 76%ile and a rank>2.6L. I was neither happy nor sad but then this thought struck me that if without preparation I could score this much, then I can definitely score far better if I dedicate myself to this. That was the moment I decided to take a year drop and prepare for JEE Mains-2021.

The Drop Year:

I didn’t buy any online paid courses and decided to rely on YouTube as there is enough material there. I followed the playlist of a youtube channel. As the days passed, I started feeling the burden of subjects. I realized the journey is not going to be easy and there would be many emotional breakdowns. That year, JEE was conducted 4 times. And, after each attempt, the getting more percentile became more and more tough. Since I was not good at chemistry, I invested more time in it. Then, for physics, I watched all the quick concept videos and grasped all the formulas. In that year, physics questions were mostly formula based. For maths, I referred to the previous year’s questions of JEE Mains.

April Attempt:

This was the first attempt as a dropper. In this attempt, I scored 73%ile, which was even lesser than last year’s result. That hit me hard. As a dropper, I had to listen to many taunts from my relatives. There were times when I had emotional breakdowns, but somehow I kept myself going. I realized that I was studying too much but was not revising at all. So, I fixed an hour daily for revision.

May Attempt:-

This attempt was just after 21 days, so I didn’t expect any great improvement. I improved from 73%ile to 81%ile. This boosted my confidence.

August Attempt:

In this session, my exam went well, and my marks secured 83%ile. My marks were far more than my previous attempt but my percentile improved only a bit to increase no. of candidates.

September Attempt:

This was the final attempt, I prepared whole heartedly for this but ended up getting 73%ile. This was lesser than all of the four attempts but I was still satisfied.’

And the Results:

The results came flashed on the website after refreshing the website quite a million times. My best of the four percentile was 83%ile and based upon that I got a CRL rank -1.5L and category rank -45 K. My rank was not that good, but I was satisfied with my results, as this journey taught me many things.

Moral of the story:

If you are preparing for JEE or any other competitive exam, focus more on revision. Don’t try to rush. Just believe in yourself.

JUST REMEMBER, RE-VISION GIVES YOU A NEW VISION OF THE TOPIC!!
