IIT JAM Result 2024 – Process of JAM Merit List Preparation
The JAM Merit List is prepared based on the following steps:
- Normalization: Scores from different subjects are normalized to ensure a fair comparison between candidates.

- 2 mark weightage to each correct answer- 2 weightage questions
- 1/3rd negative marks will be deducted for every incorrect answers (of 1 marks questions)
- 2/3 marks negative marks will be deducted for each wrong answer (of 2 marks questions)
IIT JAM Result 2024 Tie-Breaking Criteria
If two or more candidates achieve the same rank/score then the result committee uses the Tie-Breaking Criteria. Here’s how it works:
- If two or more candidates have the same score, the one with a higher ratio of positive marks to negative marks gets the higher rank. This rewards accuracy over guesswork.
