One Piece was originally a manga created by Eiichiro Oda. It is one of the best-selling manga of all time that was eventually turned into an anime and recently into a live-action remake with the same name. It follows the Straw Hat Pirates, Monkey D. Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, Namo, Samji, and a few more who are set to travel to the grand line in search of the legendary treasure of the Pirate King, Gol D Roger named The One Piece. The anime has over 1000 episodes and more than 20 seasons, which are divided into 10 sagas. Watching all of them can be very confusing at times. But don’t worry, we got you covered. Here’s a timeline of how to watch One Piece anime, including movies.

The best way to watch One Piece is to watch it in chronological order. The episodes of the anime are no longer than 25 minutes each. What confuses a lot of fans is the movies that came out along with One Piece daily anime. The best way to watch movies is chronological order as well but for that, you need to know the chronological order of the movies and where they are set between which episodes and sagas.

Watch the One Piece Anime Series in Order

1. One Piece: The Movie (watch after episode 18)

The Straw Hats come across a ruthless pirate named Eldoraggo. The Straw Hats have to stop Eldoraggo from reaching the legendary treasure as well as make sure they steal the hoards of gold that Eldoraggo has. The movie is set between the Syrup Village arc and the Baratie arc of the East Blue Saga. The movie must be watched after you’ve watched the first 18 episodes of the anime. The movie shows us the early days of the Straw Hats before they became more united and started trusting each other. One Piece: The Movie is a great nostalgia-inducing piece of One Piece media.

2. One Piece: Clockwork Island Adventure (watch after episode 53)

After their ship, Going Merry gets stolen by a group of bandits, the Straw Hat Pirates join forces with the Thief Brothers to recover their lost ship and the treasure in the bandit’s treasury. In the movie, the crew along with their new allies, the Thief Brothers, go to war with the Pirate clan that rules over the Clockwork Island to stop the wedding of their crew mate Nami and most importantly stop the leader of the clan from acquiring a super weapon. This standalone story is set in the second half of the LogueTown arc of East Blue Saga. The movie is best understood after watching the 53rd episode of the anime series.

3. One Piece: Chopper’s Kingdom on the Island of Strange Animals (watch after episode 102)

Now, this movie is quite skippable and you don’t need to watch the movie if you don’t want to. But if you are a completionist, who prefers to watch every single media piece released by a franchise, this movie is quite fun and exciting to watch. The movie starts with Luffy and Straw Hats going to an island as they hear about a great treasure being kept on the island.

When they reach there, they find intelligent animals who can talk and do everything a human can. The crew’s physician Tony Tony Chopper gets separated from the rest of the crew, which triggers an ancient prophecy, crowning Chopper as the King of Beasts and the protector of the Island. The movie is set between the Arabasta Arc in Arabasta Saga after episode 102.

4. One Piece: Dead End Adventure (watch after episode 138)

One Piece: Dead End Adventure takes our favourite pirate crew to an underground race between known pirates. The crew is pitted against the Vice admiral and his bounty hunter sidekick. The Vice Admiral is also a Devil fruit eater and has his own powers. Dead End Adventure was the first full length movie in the One Piece franchise. The movie can be watched any time after episode 130. But to understand and appreciate the movie it is best to watch after episode 138 during the Goat Island arc of the Skyland Saga.

5. The Cursed Holy Sword (watch after episode 143)

The movie is completely focused on the legendary swordsman of the Straw Hat Pirates, Roronoa Zoro. The movie is pretty much a mess of a movie, which fails to stick the landing. But the movie follows our crew especially Roronoa Zoro as they heard about a legendary sword which is also called the cursed Shichiseiken. Roronoa Zoro and the crew frantically plan to get the sword from the marines.

The movie is super Zoro focused, which is also the only good thing about it. It dwells more in Zoro’s character and his motives. If you want to watch this movie, watch it after episode number 143 of the Ruluka Island arc of the Skyland Saga.

6. One Piece: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island (watch after episode 224)

The movie is a must watch for anyone, even if you’re new to the One Piece universe. The movie is a mystery ladened cinema. It follows the crew of Straw Hat Pirates as they take a stop at the Secret Island, which is a peaceful community led by Baron Omatsuri, to get some relaxation. The Baron welcomes the crew and gives them seven challenges for the ultimate relaxation.

The movie is a fun mini adventure of the crew as they unravel the mystery of the secret island. If you want to appreciate this movie and understand the movie completely, it is a good idea to watch it after episode 224 of Oceans Dream arc of the Water 7 saga.

7. One Piece: The Giant Mechanical Soldier of Karakuri Castle (watch after episode 228)

The movie, The Giant Mechanical Soldier of Karakuri Castle has great action scenes set between a very quirky and absurd plotline. The movie starts with the straw hats finding a box. Expecting great treasure inside, the crew opens it and finds an old lady who is from Mecha Island. They decide to help her return to her home island but are attacked by the leader of the island, who later asks the pirate crew to help him find a treasure. The movie is set after the 228th episode of the Foxy’s return arc in the Water 7 saga.

8. One Piece – Episode of Arabasta: The Desert Princess and the Pirates (watch after episode 312)

The Arabasta arc is one of the best arcs of the One Piece franchise. The movie Episode of Arabasta: The Desert Princess and the Pirates is more or less a remake of the Arabasta episode of the anime. If you have watched the Arabasta arc then this movie is extremely unskippable and a must watch.

9. One Piece – Episode of Chopper Plus: Bloom in Winter, Miracle Sakura (watch after episode 325)

The remake of the original episodes of Drum Island arc, Chopper Plus adds new characters to the canon of the franchise. This movie is an alternate universe version of the original episodes, where Luffy is still trying to save Nami from another obstacle. If you really want to see an alternate take on the Bloom in Winter episode, watch this movie after the 325th episode along with the end of Water 7 saga.

10. One Piece Film: Strong World (watch after episode 381)

The ex-member of the Rocks Pirate, Shiki the golden lion destroys an island in the east blue in his determination of destroying the marines. Shiki kidnaps Nami to be the navigator of his crew; this brings him against the straw hats. The crew comes together to rescue Nami and stop the destruction spree of Shiki.

The movie shows Shiki as a devil fruit user and gives the audience a look at his devil fruit powers. The movie is non canonical but if you want to watch the movie it is best to watch it after episode 381, or if you want to enjoy it completely watch it at the end of the little east blue arc of the summit saga after episode 420.

11. One Piece 3D: Straw Hat Chase (watch after episode 381)

One Piece 3D: Straw Hat Chase follows Luffy who wakes up to a missing crew. The movie is pretty short as it follows Luffy around as he searches his crew. The movie is pretty skippable and doesn’t really add anything new to the franchise. The movie actually feels like a filler episode more than a movie.

12. One Piece Film: Z (watch after episode 578)

One Piece Film: Z, follows admiral Z, who steals a powerful weapon, the Dyna Stones and is set to end the world. This brings together the Straw Hat pirates and other Admirals who form an unlikely alliance to stop Z from ending the world. The movie is the best movie in the franchise and it would be a stupid decision to miss out on it.

The movie has few emotional moments that will surely make you shed a few tears and action sequences that are so beautifully choreographed that you will be sitting at the edge of your seats while watching it. If you want to watch the movie, watch it after the end of Z’s ambition arc in episode 578.

13. One Piece Film: Gold (watch after episode 750)

The fan service filled movie starts out as a gambling vacation but that doesn’t stay that way for long, as the movie soon turns into a heist thriller. The movie has cool visuals and wonderful action sequences. By the way, the movie is jam packed with action from start to end. If you are an old One Piece fan who has been on the ride for a while now, watch this movie after episode 750 of the Silver Mine arc of the Whole Cake Island Saga.

14. One Piece: Stampede (watch after episode 889)

One Piece: Stampede puts our favourite crew of strange pirates into a battle royale along with other famous pirates. The movie is set so far down the history of the franchise that it brings all fan favourite characters back on screen. The movie has a great story that is filled with fan service to its brim. The good thing about Stampede is that the fan service in the movie does not overshadow the story the movie is trying to tell. It is best to watch the movie after you have finished the Whole Cake Island saga or after watching episode 889.

15. One Piece Film: Red (watch after episode 1030)

The most recent movie in the Franchise, Red follows Uta, who is revealed to be the singer daughter of the Red hair pirates captain and Luffy’s idol, Shank. The movie starts as the straw hats attend Uta’s concert on the Island of Music, Elegia. The movie goes down pretty quick when the attendees find out that Uta is Shanks daughter. The movie is pretty movie focused as it follows Uta, whose powers manifest through music. The movie is best understood after the 1030th episode of the Uta’s Past arc in the Wano Country Saga.

Conclusion

The One Piece movies have been a hit or miss but either way they have been very entertaining. Some movies added something new to the canon, while others gave us a sneak peek into an alternate version of our beloved stories. Nonetheless, the 15 movies that have been released until now are fun to watch and entertaining, regardless of the values they add to the overall One Piece Lore.
