Apple Pay offers a seamless and secure way to make payments with your iPhone or Apple Watch. But what if you don’t have a debit card, or simply want to explore alternative ways to fund your Apple Pay wallet? Don’t worry, there are a few convenient options available.

Methods to Add Money to Apple Pay Without a Debit Card

  • Prepaid Cards: Many prepaid debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, etc.) function identically to traditional debit cards and are Apple Pay compatible. Simply add your prepaid card to your Apple Wallet, then transfer money from the card’s balance into your Apple Cash.
  • Credit Cards: You can add most major credit cards to Apple Pay. When making a purchase, your credit card will be charged, effectively adding funds for the transaction.
  • Apple Cash from Friends and Family: If someone you know has an Apple Cash balance, they can easily send it to you. This is a handy way to receive money for things like shared expenses or gifts.
  • Gift Cards: While you can’t add a gift card directly to your Apple Cash balance, there’s a workaround. If the gift card is for a retailer that accepts Apple Pay, you can use the gift card to make purchases directly, using Apple Pay as your payment method.

Steps to Add Money to Apple Pay Using a Prepaid Card

  1. Make sure your prepaid card is compatible with Apple Wallet.
  2. Open the Wallet app on your iPhone.
  3. Tap the “+” sign to add a new card and select “Debit or Credit Card”.
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to add your prepaid card.
  5. Once added, go to the “Apple Cash” card in your Wallet app.
  6. Tap the three dots () and select “Add Money“.
  7. Choose your prepaid card as the source, enter the amount, and tap “Add“.

Notes: Minimum and maximum transfer amounts may apply depending on your prepaid card. Some prepaid cards might require additional identity verification before you can add them to Apple Wallet.

Using a prepaid card to fund Apple Pay offers more than just convenience if you don’t have a debit card. It can also be a helpful tool for budgeting by allowing you to load a specific amount of money for spending, helping you potentially avoid overspending.
