In a moment that has left the gaming world buzzing with excitement, Rockstar Games unveiled the much-anticipated trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI on Tuesday. The release comes after a leak on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

The trailer, which marks a decade since the last release, has already surpassed a staggering 121 million views on YouTube within just 48 hours. This accomplishment has not only set the gaming community abuzz but also listed the trailer’s name in the Guinness World Records (GWR) thrice.

The Grand Theft Auto VI trailer now holds the record for the most viewed videogame reveal on YouTube in 24 hours, racking up over 90 million views. It also became the most-liked videogame trailer on YouTube with 8.9 million likes within the first day of release. Surpassing the popular Mr Beast, it became the most-viewed non-music YouTube video in 24 hours outside of the videogame sphere, according to GWR.

Sam Houser, the founder of Rockstar Games, expressed his excitement about the new release, stating, “Grand Theft Auto VI continues our efforts to push the limits of what’s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences. We’re thrilled to be able to share this new vision with players everywhere.”

The trailer reveals that the game, set to release in 2025, will feature a female protagonist named Lucia. Lucia, alongside her partner, is seen engaging in a crime spree across bustling beaches, city highways, and clubs, reminiscent of the infamous Bonnie-and-Clyde dynamic. The backdrop of Vice City adds a nostalgic touch to the high-octane heists portrayed in the trailer.

However, the journey to this reveal has not been without its challenges. In 2022, Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, faced a significant setback when hackers leaked unreleased footage from the upcoming GTA installment. The gaming community was taken aback by the appearance of authentic screenshots and gameplay videos online, a situation the company acknowledged as a result of a “network intrusion.”

According to Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto VI will be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S in 2025. As the gaming world eagerly awaits the release, the trailer has certainly set the stage for what promises to be an epic addition to the Grand Theft Auto franchise.
