As a final-year student in computer science engineering, I’ve hit a rough patch with 18 consecutive rejections . It’s been a rollercoaster of self-doubt and sadness despite my strong academics and deep love for software tech.

But why?

Let’s unpack this. I’ve worked hard to learn many tech skills like Java, Python, Machine Learning, Web Development, JavaScript, React Native, React.js, Salesforce, Google Cloud, AWS, C, C++, MySQL, Django, and DSA.

Wait, what? Here is a problem.

I’ve learned too much about different things and haven’t gotten really good at any of them. They say, “Jack of all trades, master of none.”

This realization hit hard. Questions flooded my mind – “Have I wasted four crucial years?” “Why didn’t I focus on mastering one thing?” A piercing comment from an interviewer lingers: “You’re in your final year and still haven’t mastered backend development.”

That made me even more nervous.

But did I really waste my college years?

I think the answer is in the first sentence of this article: “I am a student.” College is a time to try out lots of things. How could I have just picked one thing without trying everything?

I don’t think I wasted my college years. Trying out all these different tech things helped me figure out what I’m interested in. I can pick one thing now and get really good at it.

Yes, I may be behind, but I’ve gained invaluable insights. Over these four years, I’ve learned that while “a jack of all trades is a master of none,” they often outshine those who specialize.

Now that I’m at this point, I can pick any tech thing and spend a couple of months getting really good at it. I know what lights my fire. Despite the rejections, I value this newfound direction.

If you’ve read this far, I’d love to hear your thoughts and advice.
