These and Those are somewhat similar to this and that. We can say that these and those are the plurals versions of this and that used in the sentences. Both terms are used as pronouns in the sentence. Pronouns are the words used in place of nouns in the sentence. Some of the pronouns are I, he, him, you, we, him, her, yours, theirs, these, those, and many more.

Meaning and Usage of These

These is used to indicate the object that is nearby and this also indicates the same but in the singular version. 

For Example,

  • This is my laptop. 
  • These are my laptops.

Both sentences indicate the same meaning but the only difference is that the former sentence is indicating about one laptop and the latter sentence is indicating more than 1 laptop.

Also, These can be used when talking about the present time. For example, These days young people talk very loudly.

Those is used to indicate the object that is far away and that also indicates the same but in the singular version. 

For Example,

  • That is my laptop.
  • Those are my laptops.

Both sentences indicate the same meaning but the only difference is that the former sentence is indicating about one laptop and the latter sentence is indicating more than 1 laptop.

Also, Those can be used when indicating something about past time. For example, Those days in the school were best.

  • Those are my father’s shoes.
  • Those are your things on the table.

Both these and those are the plural forms of this and that and come in the category of pronouns. Whenever one has to talk about the nearby object or the present time, then the usage of these makes the sentence complete and when the far-away object or the past time is taken into account then the use of those makes the sense.
