Hi Everyone , in this article I would be sharing interview experience for the role of SDET at Amazon, which is a well known E-Commerce Company.

Before beginning with the experience, I would like to share a quick insight into who is an SDET and what are the roles and responsibilities of the profile .

An SDET, or Software Development Engineer in Test, is a crucial role in software engineering that combines software development with testing to ensure software quality. They are responsible for the automation testing, building and designing testing frameworks etc.

So , starting with the interview experience , I applied on the Amazon jobs portal and then the recruiter shortlisted my profile and reached out to me . He was super helpful in the entire process. All interviews were taken one day after the other and then at last the results were shared.

Round 1 : Hackerrank Test

First step in the hiring process was an Hackerrank test which consisted of 2 coding questions and later on followed by questions on behavioural assessment based on certain situations like how productive are you in the task you do , how do you take feedback , how do you distribute your work requirements, how do you help your peers etc

Round 2 : Coding Interview by SDET-2

After clearing the hackerrank test , you move to interview round 1 which was taken by SDET-2 at Amazon . The interview had 2 coding questions based on dynamic programming. I was able to write solutions to both of them and explain the time complexity

Round 3 : Hiring Manager Interview

In the hiring manager round , I was asked on my current work , projects that I have worked on , tech stack in detail . He asked me situation based behavioural questions based on leadership principles at Amazon . Sample questions : How do you handle challenges at work, describe any challenging problem that you have solved , describe any initiatives that you have taken, describe how would you handle feedback given etc .

He also asked me about my day to day work responsibilities as an SDET. This round was less of a technical one and more of a behavioural one , so we need to prepare accordingly.

Round 4 : Interview by Senior QA Engineer

This was a QA based round where the interviewer asked me QA testing based questions . Questions can be asked on principles of testing , software testing lifecycle, how do you write test cases, what are the negative and positive test cases , types of testing : black box , white box , sanity , regression etc.

He gave me a scenario of vending machine and withdrawal of money at ATM and asked me to write test cases abut the same . I was successfully able to write test cases based on Usablity , Accessibility , Storage etc .

Result : I was selected .

Tips : 1. Prepare your resume well.

2. Prepare DSA questions of leetcode medium to hard level.

3. Prepare questions based on Leadership principles at Amazon.

4. Prepare questions based on testing methodologies and automation.

5. Speak out whatever you are thinking , it helps interviewer to understand and he might give you a few hints.

Resources on Youtube and Interview experiences at Geeksforgeeks helped me a lot in this preparation.

Thanks a lot for reading and best wishes!
