Power View is used to create interactive reports to analyze the data. We can also make these reports more attractive by changing the themes, fonts, background colors, and chart palettes. In order to make the reports more attractive by adding background images and we can also change the size of the text. In this article, we will discuss, how to customize the theme, and background in the reports, also how to change the text, and font size in the reports. 

Creating a Report in Excel

Before discussing about the above topics, let’s create a report on which we will make aesthetic reports. Follow the further steps to create a report:

Step 1: Create a sample data, which has 4 columns name Country, Sports, Medal, and No. of Medals, with 7 rows.

Step 2: Select the entire data, from A1, to D7.

Step 3: Click on the Insert tab from the ribbon and then select Power View under the View section

Step 4: Click on the Design tab from the ribbon, under the Visualizations section, click on the Bar Chart, and a drop-down appears. Select the Stacked Bar option.

Step 5: Under the Visualizations section again, click on the Table, then, select the Matrix option.

Step 6: Under the Visualizations section again, click on the Table, then, select the Card option.

Step 7: Now, we could view the reports in excel.

Adding Aesthetics to Power View Reports 

Aesthetics means adding beauty to the report, by customizing it, this can be achieved by selecting different themes, adding backgrounds, and changing text and font size in the reports. We will deep dive with examples, in each property. 

Selecting the Theme

We can represent our reports in different themes which are provided by Power View. By changing the theme the report will become more attractive. The color of the elements and layouts will be changed so that it will attract the readers.

The following are the steps to select a theme in the reports: 

Step 1: Click on the Power View tab from the Ribbon.

Step 2: Under the Theme, section, click on the Themes button.

Step 3: A drop-down appears, we can select a theme according to our own choice.

Step 4: As we can see a new theme, is added. Previously when we created our report, the theme, shows shades of light blue, now the theme, shows shades of dark blue color.

Selecting the Background 

Power view provides us with the capability of adding background colors. By default the background color is white but we can customize it to make an attractive report.

The following are the steps to select the background in the reports: 

Step 1: Click on the Power View tab from the Ribbon.

Step 2: Under the Themes section, click on the Background option.

Step 3: A drop-down appears, we can select a background color according to our own choice. For example, if we click on the top-right background color, i.e. black.

Step 4: We can observe, that, the background color of the report is changed to black, which looks better than the white background.

Changing the Text Size

A user prefers, viewing reports, that our perfect in their text size. We can represent our reports with different text sizes. By default the text size is 100% but we can change it to a different size, by decrementing or incrementing it. 

The following are the steps to change the text size in the reports: 

Step 1: Click on the Power View tab from the Ribbon.

Step 2: Under the Themes section, click on the Text Size option.

Step 3: A drop-down appears, which shows the percentage, of text size. If the percentage is greater than 100%, than the text will be larger than the default size, and vice-versa. For example, change the Text Size to 75%.

Step 4: As we have decremented the text size, hence, every text in the report, is of a smaller size, than, the default one.

Changing the Font

Fonts matter when designing the reports, as they show the aesthetics and the ease of reading the text. We can represent our reports with different font styles. By default, the font style is Constantia which we can change to a different font style.

Step 1: Click on the Power View tab from the Ribbon.

Step 2: Under Themes section, click on the Font option.

Step 3: A drop-down appears, which shows 25+ font styles. Change the font style to Segoe UI.

Step 4: Now, the text is shown in Segoe UI, which shows more readability, than the original text.
