From 1951 until 1954, Warren Buffett worked as an investment salesman at Buffett Falk & Co. He had always wished to work with and learn from his hero, Benjamin Graham. Buffett found that Graham was on the board of GEICO Insurance in 1952 and was willing to labor for free, but Graham refused. In 1954, he worked as a financial analyst for Graham-Newman Corp. Graham quit his partnership and retired in 1956 when he departed. Warren Buffett started his business, Buffett Partnership Ltd; the same year, Graham retired and became successful. He served on the boards of Citigroup Global Markets Holdings, The Gillette Company, and Graham Holdings Company. 

Thus, Buffet built his riches gradually over a long period, primarily through investment. His wealth would increase as he reinvested his gains in new assets.
