As an average middle-class Indian, moving to the USA was a big task. I had to take care of many things before planning to study in the USA. For instance, educational loans, social norms, cultural shifts, and the stress of repaying the loan. They say, ” Staying in the USA is a dream come true”, but they forget to say that an individual has to struggle to meet the standard living amends. I know this might sound like a sympathy gainer but it is not. I’m just a nobody who is trying to share my experience for your reference. Let us discuss the important things one should consider as an average middle-class if you are planning to study in the USA.

  1. Always follow the laws and regulations of the country you are visiting to study, in this case i.e.., USA.
  2. Do not spend a rigorous amount of money on unnecessary things.
  3. Learn to cook and always treat yourself when you achieve small things. For example, if you make new friends or you get good grades or your first paycheck as a student worker.
  4. Learn to create Habits. ” Atomic Habits” By James Clear, this book guides you a lot on how to build new habits and break the bad ones.
  5. Display your knowledge on social media (LinkedIn or Github), No one will approach you, if you keep sulking in the corner of your room thinking you are intelligent.
  6. If you are doing a Master’s, focus on building your portfolio in the USA Market. Your Experience back in India is negligible when compared to what you build in the US Market. For Bachelors, Be good to your professors, always be on their good page, think innovatively. Build a profile in 4 years that can compete with an experienced candidate in the market. I know that people will not accept a less experienced candidate but trust me if your skills are proven in the market then in no time you will be working full-time in your dream company or maybe you might build your own company.
  7. It is all good to live a normal USA standard life. Do not be selfish in eating and maintaining your health. Without Health, there is no Wealth.
  8. Medical, Educational, and Government Fees are pricey. So be careful about how to utilize the resources.
  9. “48 Laws of Human Nature” By Robert Greene, this book teaches you how to analyze human nature. This book is a guide to overcoming two-faced manipulated people in our society. You will need this knowledge to survive anywhere in the world.
  10. If nothing goes your way, Do not worry God will guide you. So be patient and always help the person in need. Do not give up.

I know these things are easy to say and I will never give you guys false hopes. But these are just my mere experiences. So good luck. Always stay alert to your surroundings and All the best for the future.
